Chapter 133
I watched in stunned silence white he entered his number and handed it back to me.
“Text me,” he said simply.
Then he walked away.
Just like that.
He disappeared deeper into the bar until the crowd swallowed him completely.
And somehow, that made him even more confusing.
My body hurt.
That was the first thing I registered when consciousness returned.
The second thing I registered was darkness. Complete darkness.
I frowned weakly.
Wait.
Was I dead?
Because honestly, drinking that hot liquid felt capable of killing people.
I opened my eyes slowly and stared upward.
Still dark.
Oh my God.
Had I risen as a ghost?
I shifted carefully and immediately regretted it because my head started throbbing so violently it felt like somebody had shaved a second heartbeat into my skull.
I groaned.
Then suddenly-snoring.
Loud snoring.
I turned my head weakly and found Lillian sprawled beside me asleep.
I stared at her for a long moment.
Whay
No.
There was absolutely no way sounds like that were permitted in the afterlife.
Which meant… she was alive.
And so was 1.
Phew.
I grabbed my phone weakly and squinted at the screen.
3:17 AM.
Oh. That explained the darkness.
I lay back down slowly and tried piecing together last night.
I remembered: leaving the apartment.
Walking.
The bar.
Alcohol.
A tall boy named… Archer. Yeah.
And then- nothing.
Blankness. Actually terrifying blankness.
I frowned.
How did I get home?
My brain struggled painfully before finally producing a faint memory of Lillian’s voice.
Then another blurry memory of someone dragging me upward while I complained dramatically about the layout of the stairs.
Okay.
So Lillian probably found me downstairs and brought me home.
That made sense.
Somehow.
Tclosed my eyes briefly again: Then immediately thought of DeLuca. My chest tightened before I could stop it.
By now he was definitely home.
Probably asleep in the other room.
And suddenly I realized something deeply irritating; the alcohol solved absolutely nothing.
Nothing.
I still felt hurt.
Still angry.
Still unsettled.
The image of him at Mabel’s house kept replaying inside my head alongside Aria’s excited voice.
“He called me…”
