Chapter 625 Arrival of the First Wife
“Riley’s father and brother would tear this city apart if anything happened to her. You really think your family would walk away untouched if that happened?”
Marina was too far gone in her own fantasy to listen.
She waved a hand impatiently. “You’re worrying over nothing!
“Why should we be afraid of the Harpers? Just sign the divorce papers now-then Sebastian can go straight down to the courthouse with Teresa!
“Once that marriage license is filed, what’s left for the Harpers to do? They can’t just tear up a legally binding marriage, can they?
“Sebastian, let me tell you-Teresa has been waiting for you for years. That kind of loyalty doesn’t come around every day.”
Sebastian felt like his head was going to split open.
The two of them kept chirping in his ears-one bad-mouthing his wife, the other dreaming up some quickie divorce-and- remarriage scheme.
The urge to snap was boiling up inside him.
He was just about to lose it when-
“Click.”
The bedroom door opened.
Riley and Miranda stepped out one after the other.
Miranda’s face was still flushed with leftover anger, but Riley-who’d clearly been on the losing end of the argument earlier-now looked perfectly calm, her expression still and unreadable.
There were no puffy eyes, no trace of tears. If anything, her gaze was clear and sharp, almost knowing.
Wilson watched her and felt something shift uncomfortably inside him.
Something didn’t fit-the change was too stark.
But Marina, blinded by her own rosy daydreams, didn’t pick up on any of it.
She just assumed Riley was putting on a brave face.
She scurried over, her voice shrill. “Oh, look who’s here! Heard you want a divorce from Sebastian? That’s what you said, right?
“You better mean what you say. We’re trying to be nice about this-we even had the divorce papers drawn up already, just in case you changed your mind. Since you two never even had a real wedding, better to make it quick. Clean break, you know? Better for everyone.”
Riley looked back at her with a faint, mocking smile. “Wow, you’re in a hurry.”
“Damn right I am!” Greed had stripped Marina of any last shred of shame. “Didn’t you say it yourself? You don’t want to be with
Sebastian anymore, you’re begging to step aside. So don’t go blaming Teresa for stepping in!”
