Chapter 422 Eight Different Dishes From the Fish
la snapped her fingers and gave a short nod. “Exactly. I want to find out if what happened was just luck. or every full-grown snakehead fish has one of those things inside.”
If every adult fish carried it, George would hit a real jackpot.
Layla suspected the strange substance only worked for water-type beastkin.
Rowan stepped forward voluntarily and came over beside Layla. He showed her how to catch the huge snakehead fish.
These were predatory fish, and they loved preying on greenwood fish most of all.
Rowan took one greenwood fish from their woven fish basket.
He sliced its body open quickly and tied it to a rope, then lowered the bait into the river.
That was the exact trick he had used to make his catch earlier.
Rowan had been ready to set up his handmade trap.
But Layla had already shifted into her beast form. She hovered in mid-air, eyes locked sharply on the water below.
She planned to dive down and stab the fish straight with her beak the second one showed itself.
Before long, the blood from the wounded greenwood fish drew in an even bigger snakehead fish.
It swam slowly toward the bait. Layla dove down fast and hard. Her sharp beak pierced clean through its skull.
The huge snakehead fish never got a chance to thrash; it died instantly. Layla tossed it onto the riverbank with a sharp flick of her head.
Then she shifted back to her human form and landed softly on the ground.
Rowan fell completely silent.
So what was the point of me waiting so patiently all this time?
Does that mean I’m patient?
Layla grinned and set to cleaning the new snakehead fish.
In the same spot as before, her fingers brushed against another round, solid lump.
She pulled it out, and it looked identical to the object George had swallowed earlier.
Layla turned toward George. “Want to eat another one?”
It was gross, yet there was no denying how powerful the effect had been.

George thought it over and gritted his teeth, ready to swallow the second lump.
ght as he was about to take it, Emily spoke up. “Aren’t you curious whether this works on other people.
Layla smacked her own forehead. She held the round lump back in her palm.
After hesitating for a moment, she tilted her head back and swallowed it herself.
She waited for a long while, yet nothing happened inside her body.
It truly only benefited water-type beastkin.
A flicker of regret crossed her mind; she had wasted one sample.
They tried to catch more snakehead fish to retrieve more of the lumps. Even after nearly using up all their greenwood bait, no more large snakehead fish bit.
“These big snakehead fish are pretty smart. We’ve already caught two today, so we probably won’t get any more.” Rowan said.
Layla let out a small disappointed sigh. They would have to come back another day.
George licked his lips, still savoring the amazing taste of the fish meat.
Layla pulled all their catches ashore and divided them up. She gave most of the fish to Emily’s group.
Emily lifted her hands to turn the gift down, but Layla shook her head. “We never would’ve found this fish without Rowan. You deserve the bigger share.”
George hauled half of the giant snakehead fish and followed close behind Layla.
The moment they stepped back to the wooden cabin, Oliver’s eyes lit up at the sight of the enormous fish.
He leaned in, studying it with curiosity. “Where did you guys find something this big?”
Layla said, “This is the fish Rowan kept raving about. None of us expected it could grow this huge.”
She told George to set the fish down. She rolled up her sleeves, ready to keep her promise and prepare eight different dishes from the fish.
Layla thinly sliced the most tender meat and arranged it neatly on their largest platter.
Next, she chopped off the fish head and made a homemade substitute for spicy chili fish head.
She fried the fish bones in oil, poured in boiling water, and simmered a rich, thick fish soup.
She cut the fish steaks into chunks and braised them with oil and seasonings.
She carefully prepped the fish tail. Its bones got deep-fried and drizzled with her own sweet-and-sour
sauce.
Last of all, she tossed the fish skin into a salad.
