A reporter stood up. "Ms. Evert, this issue started blowing up the night before last. By yesterday morning, Ashen's Twitter was completely flooded, and the whole internet was attacking her. Shouldn't you have stepped up then?"
Phoebe looked apologetic. "I have a frail constitution, so I make it a habit to go to bed early every night. I came to the gallery early yesterday morning and was busy with the exhibition all day without checking the news online, which is why I missed the best window to explain."
Another reporter chimed in, "Ms. Evert, you're praising yourself for being brave by stepping forward, but after causing such massive damage to Ashen, speaking up is just basic human decency. I really don't see where your bravery lies."
Phoebe hadn't expected the crowd to still hold so much hostility after her explanation. Now, she simply kept her head down and stayed silent.
The reporter pressed on, "You asked fans to look at this rationally—are you trying to shift the blame onto them? It was clearly you who spread the false rumors, which were then exploited by the media to cause this outcome."
Phoebe's face turned pale. She lowered her eyes and said, "It was my fault. I sincerely apologize to the fans."
"The person you should be apologizing to is Ashen."
"Yes, I am deeply sorry to Ashen."
But the reporters were relentless, seizing on the loopholes in her words and firing sharp, accusatory questions.
Suddenly, Phoebe clutched her chest, her face turning pale.
Her assistant immediately supported her, standing up to address the reporters. "Phoebe really is in poor health. It was an unintentional mistake, so please go easy on her!"
The staff nearby also announced the end of the press conference and escorted Phoebe to the back.
Compared to the chaos online, the Evert family was also in an uproar. Seeing so many people attacking Phoebe, coupled with what looked like a relapse of her heart condition, Phoebe's parents, along with Grandpa and Grandma Evert, rushed to the gallery immediately and gave the exhibition management a severe dressing-down.
"It was clearly those media outlets that spread the news. What does that have to do with our Phoebe? If your exhibition needed a scapegoat, you shouldn't have pinned it on her! Do you really think the Evert family is that easy to bully?"
"If anything happens to Phoebe, I'll tear this gallery down today!"
The manager, knowing the Evert family's background, could only apologize profusely in the face of their aggressive stance.
Charlotte Evert remained relentless. "You threw Phoebe out there to act as your human shield. You must give us a proper explanation for this, otherwise, you can kiss this exhibition goodbye!"
The manager had no choice but to invite them into the director's office and have Quentin explain the whole situation.
