Beside Erin stood a beautiful woman in a slinky slip dress, trying to de-escalate the situation. "Ms. Zane, if this lady compensates you for the original price, I'll comp all your drinks tonight. Please, just do me a favor and let this slide."
Marina walked up to Erin's side. "What's going on?"
Erin frowned in relief when she saw Marina. "I splashed some hand soap on her dress while washing my hands. She claims it's pure silk and can't touch soap, so now she's demanding ten times the price!"
The woman in the slip dress—clearly a manager at the Midnight Bar—was still trying to speak up for Erin.
Natasha Zane scoffed. "Manager Monet, I know you're Mr. Foster's girl, but I'm sorry. I don't care who asks, I'm not giving anyone face tonight. She's paying me ten times the price!"
Marina froze slightly at Natasha's words and looked closely at the manager. It was Giselle Monet.
Giselle wore a pink, diamond-studded gown that hugged her stunning curves. She oozed effortless charm and kept a polite smile. "This has nothing to do with Mr. Foster. We just need to be reasonable."
Natasha's face darkened. "Are you saying I'm being unreasonable?"
"If you took this young lady to court," Giselle said softly, "the judge would order her to pay the original retail price. The law is fair, after all."
"Exactly!" Erin snapped. "I'll pay the original price, tops. Go ahead and sue me if you want, but you're out of your mind if you think you can extort me!"
Natasha turned purple with rage. "You just wait! Nobody is leaving here until I get my money!"
She whipped out her phone and made a call. "Tim, come out here! I'm getting bullied!"
After hearing the response, Natasha smirked triumphantly. "Hurry up!"
The man she called was already at the club. Less than three minutes later, he swaggered over, looking thoroughly annoyed. "Who's messing with my Natasha?"
Natasha practically threw herself at the man, showing off the stain on her dress. "It's brand new and completely ruined by hand soap!"
"Whoever ruined it, pay up!" The man, Tim Dawson, wore a garish floral shirt, his hair slicked back. He sounded incredibly cocky.
"Pay what exactly?"
Seeing Tim bow and scrape before Carson, Natasha didn't dare say another word.
Bystanders next to Marina started whispering. "I thought that guy was a badass, but he turned into a coward the second Mr. Foster showed up. Trying to extort a hundred grand? He must be desperate."
"Natasha is an idiot. Everyone knows Giselle is under Mr. Foster's protection."
"Giselle is new to J City, so Natasha probably thought she was an easy target."
"None of them are saints. Isn't Mr. Foster engaged? Giselle is just a homewrecker."
...
Giselle stood closely beside Carson, offering Tim a bright smile. "You're mistaken, Mr. Dawson. You shouldn't be apologizing to me. You should be apologizing to this young lady."
Everyone's eyes immediately shifted to Erin. Carson glanced over as well—and that was when he finally saw Marina standing right beside her. His expression shifted instantly.
