Gigi:
I immediately looked at Theodore, Jaguar, and Ragnar.
They remained silent.
Of course, they didn’t agree with her, but this was the first time I noticed that they didn’t immediately defend my brother.
I mean, Ragnar was always silent. He never really spoke to his grandmother anyway.
But Jaguar and Theodore didn’t say anything.
Tears immediately welled in my eyes as I noticed how much attention Verity had garnered.
Now, everyone was probably thinking of her as the damsel in distress they had to save.
I wondered if this was the moment I was going to be replaced.
"Anyway, I’ve planned a lot of stuff for Jenna’s birthday. It’s in two days. I want to send out invitations, official cards. I sent the emails out a few days ago, letting everyone know to keep that particular day free. And now I want to send a card just for the beauty of it."
Verity went back to her professional manner, immediately talking about business after she had let that little slip-up cause me so much distress.
I knew from the way Jaguar and Theodore were watching me that they had questions. I didn’t like it.
Previously, we had never even had a small argument.
Now, for the first time, they were watching me like they had something to say.
All because of Verity.
"I’ll go home, if that’s okay," I said as I grabbed my handbag and pulled it over my shoulder.
"I’ll drop you home." Ragnar got up and walked over to me. "Wait for me in the parking lot," he added, kissing my cheek before heading back to his room to get his keys.
I walked out silently.
"Gigi," I heard Jaguar call, but I ignored him and kept walking.
To my surprise, someone else was already waiting there.
Jenna.
She was anxiously rubbing her hands together, almost as though she had heard that I was leaving and rushed out ahead of me.
"Gigi, I need to speak with you," she said, rushing over to me.
"What is it, Jenna? Please, no more complaints about stuff. I’m seriously done playing matchmaker between you and Theodore," I told her tiredly, trying to dismiss her.
My brother had told me what was going on.
He had to blackmail her now to get her to sleep with him every night.
They were doing it every night, fine, but I was glad it would be over on her birthday night.
Because if it kept going, Jenna would eventually become confident enough to tell someone, or she would slip up and get someone else involved because she was becoming agitated.
How long could someone keep doing something while being blackmailed?
I didn’t want her to take a drastic step that would trigger an investigation.
