Chapter 250: 250-She Is Getting All The Attention

Gigi:

I was standing there, watching everyone hover around Verity, throwing question after question at her.

She sat on the couch, not looking particularly smug or anything, but just the way she was sitting there, getting all the attention, was making me anxious.

"So it was Verity after all," Mrs. Bundy remarked, snapping everyone’s attention toward herself.

"What do you mean?" Verity questioned.

"I mean, remember that stalker? We thought he was after Gigi? Well, it turns out he was after you all this time, and he was just playing mind games," Mrs. Bundy explained, causing me to secretly clench my jaw.

"But I’m so glad it wasn’t me," I immediately added, placing a hand on my chest.

"Well, of course it wasn’t you," lady Lucille retorted with a very pissed-off look as she glanced at me.

It was always the way she treated me, with so much disdain and disregard.

My breath hitched when she pointed at me and then looked at Verity.

"I should have known the man was after Verity."

The comment slipped from her mouth between sips of tea.

I kept staring at her before forcing myself to look at Ragnar.

He was watching me stand there, feeling neglected, possibly because every time they talked about the stalker, they made it seem like being stalked was a privilege, as though I wasn’t worthy of even that.

Something very demeaning was going on.

"Grandmother, would you like to explain your comment?" Ragnar asked his grandmother very carefully, yet in a thunderous voice.

She put the cup down on its saucer and then looked at me.

"She is the girlfriend of an Alpha King. Why would a man come after her?"

When she finally said it, everybody relaxed.

"So he was attacking Verity out of anger whenever he thought she was hanging around with other men, and then he would leave letters to throw us off guard, right?" Theodore asked, tapping his foot on the ground.

"I think it was more like he was trying to abduct Verity, and then he found a better way to get close to her. That’s why he invited her to his home for a vacation. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t planning on letting her go," Jaguar corrected.

So much talk about Verity.

It had already been two days, and she was all I was hearing about.

Verity this, Verity that.

"I just don’t understand why he was attacking other people around me under the pretense of punishing them for hurting Gigi," Verity wondered aloud, making me look away in irritation.

She must be feeling so lucky to have all the attention and eyes on her.

"Well, he didn’t attack too many people, to be honest." Theodore touched his chin, his eyes narrowing. "Just you and–" He paused and looked up, and our eyes met. "Oliver."

The way he said my brother’s name made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

"Well, he must have done it, you know, because I–" I tried to speak softly, attempting to divert the subject while also reminding them that it was a secret I had shared with them and they shouldn’t be discussing it out here.

"Oh, is it because of the past?" Verity spoke up very softly.

I had to do anything I could to stop her from explaining.

"Yeah, let’s not talk about it," I interjected, touching my ears.
