Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 1360

Lucas's brain completely short-circuited. He couldn't think. He couldn't breathe.

The driver up front had been knocked out by the airbag, slumped motionlessly over the steering wheel.

In the entire wreckage, only Debbie and Lucas were still conscious, and both were paralyzed by pure terror.

Because the severed head that had landed on the dead guard's lap suddenly rolled off and hit Debbie's foot.

In that second, Debbie felt like she had been dragged straight into hell. She had lived a ruthless, chaotic life, but she had never experienced raw, slaughterhouse violence like this.

Even when her hand had been chopped off, she knew she wasn't going to die. But right now, sitting in a metal coffin coated in blood, she felt the icy breath of the grim reaper on her neck.

The vehicles ground to a halt. Footsteps crunched on the asphalt. The rear door next to Lucas was violently wrenched open.

Lucas stared blankly. It wasn't Bella. It was a massive, scarred mercenary named Rex.

"Move! What the hell are you waiting for?" Rex roared, his voice distorted through Lucas's ringing ears.

Lucas glanced at Debbie. She was still hyperventilating, staring blankly into space.

"Move..." Lucas stammered hysterically. "Get out... get the money..."

The word "money" acted like a defibrillator to Debbie's brain. A desperate spark of clarity cut through her shock.

She violently yanked her foot out from under the severed head. Her shoe was completely soaked. She knew it was blood—thick, warm blood pooling around her ankles.

It felt like dozens of phantom hands were gripping her legs, trying to drag her into the grave. Her foot felt like it weighed a thousand pounds.

Rex dragged Lucas out of the wreckage by his collar. He reached back in to grab Debbie, but before he could pull her out, the casino's tail SUV—the one Bella's crew was supposed to disable—came roaring through the smoke, accelerating wildly toward them.
