Resentment burned in Bella's chest. Why was the entire world suddenly revolving around Lillian?
All of this was supposed to belong to her. Everyone used to stand firmly in her corner. It was all Lillian's fault. If that bitch hadn't shown up, Bella wouldn't be drowning in this nightmare.
On one front, Sebastian was aggressively pushing for a divorce. Their first court hearing was fast approaching, and from the very beginning, he had categorically refused to offer her a single dime in a settlement. She had worked her fingers to the bone for that money.
On the other front, her situation with The Blood-Debt Vultures was spiraling out of control. The grace period had evaporated, and the loan sharks had been relentlessly hounding her for the past two days. She was terrified to ignore their calls, knowing that if she went off the grid, they would start terrorizing her personal and professional contacts.
If her messy divorce and her massive underground debts were dragged into the spotlight, she would be ruined. The leaked explicit photos from her past were child's play compared to this. These were the two secrets she desperately needed to bury.
She didn't have the principal to pay off the loan sharks, let alone the exorbitant interest that was compounding by the hour. Her entire survival strategy had hinged on Debbie Harris paying her back.
And now...
Everything was ruined because of that worthless old hag. A useless piece of trash who had the nerve to swindle her out of millions to feed a gambling addiction.
Just thinking about Debbie made Bella's blood boil. Her mind raced. She couldn't just sit here and wait for the ax to fall. Since Debbie had stolen her cash, the only logical solution was to squeeze it back out of her.
Bella made a snap decision. She couldn't allow herself to remain backed into a corner by Sebastian. Dropping her pending files, she stormed out of the office without a word to anyone.
Bella hurled her designer bag onto the sofa. Before she could even sit down, Debbie sauntered out from the bedroom, glaring at her.
"You finally showed up," Debbie sneered. "When exactly are you going to let me out of here, Bella? This is illegal imprisonment. Do you have any idea how much prison time that carries?"
Bella let out a dark, mocking laugh, completely unfazed. "So what? Since when does trash like you get to lecture me about the law?"
"Debbie Harris, I haven't even started breaking your bones for the money you owe me, and you're barking at me? Are you out of your damn mind? You clearly don't understand the gravity of your situation. You owe me hundreds of millions. Your pathetic life isn't even worth a fraction of that debt."
Bella stepped closer, her eyes cold and predatory. "Let me spell it out for you, Debbie. I'm here today for my money. I don't care how you get it. You can sell yourself on the street, or you can hold a knife to your throat and extort your son. I don't give a damn. But if you don't cough up the cash, you'll be chopping off your own fingers and toes and mailing them to Sebastian yourself."
