Brandon inhaled sharply, his gaze fixed on Martin.
What kind of terrible idea was this?
Lillian was at the top of her game. The entire global tech industry revered her, and she had millions of adoring fans.
The Mercer family knew exactly how disastrous her first marriage had been.
If she were to remarry, Martin had absolutely no right to dictate her choice in men.
Was he out of his mind?
Pairing her off with a family friend and calling it a marriage alliance?
Brandon broke into a cold sweat.
But Beatrice looked so confident. This was going to be a massive headache.
Martin noticed his son's glaring look, sensing the blame and questioning in his eyes.
He didn't want to be misunderstood, so he quickly defended himself. "Lillian is divorced and has a child. Marrying into the Winthrop family is a step up for her.
"There's no precedent in Northwyn's elite circles of a wealthy bachelor heir marrying a divorced woman.
"If anything, the Winthrops are the ones making a compromise."
Beatrice immediately laughed. "Nonsense. I watched Lillian grow up. I adore her.
"Divorced or not, even if she had been married three times, we'd be incredibly lucky to welcome her into our family."
Her words caused Brandon to pause.
He had been full of doubt, but their reasoning hit him like a wake-up call.
Tristan and Lillian had a childhood foundation, which was far better than bringing in an outsider.
Their marriage would likely be stable and affectionate.
As for Sebastian? Just thinking of him brought up Bella Ward.
Lillian probably felt nothing but disgust.
If she chose to reconcile with Sebastian for the sake of their child, Brandon wouldn't object. Lillian would still be well taken care of.
Sebastian would have to pour even more business into the Mercer Group just to keep Lillian happy.
So, if Lillian chose Sebastian, Brandon could accept that too.
Both Sebastian and the Winthrop family were excellent options.
