Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 1218

Martin Mercer choked on his water.

Beatrice Winthrop looked at him, puzzled. "There are plenty of beautiful and interesting women out there, aren't there? Why are you so obsessed with such a vicious woman?

"This family used to be so harmonious. When my dear friend was running the household, everything was in perfect order. She treated Eleanor like her own flesh and blood.

"And yet, you had to ruin it. Now look what happened. You pushed Lillian away. Are you happy now?

"With Lillian's temper, I doubt she'll ever come back."

Beatrice Winthrop was an elder, and the two families had formed a strategic partnership.

With the Winthrop family preparing to return from overseas, Martin had offered lucrative conditions to invite her back.

He didn't expect her to use her past friendship with his mother to dictate his family affairs.

Ever since his mother had fallen ill, no one had dared to lecture him like this.

Especially not with the condescending tone of an elder.

Martin naturally didn't want to hear it.

He changed the subject. "My sons and I are always busy with the company. We haven't had much time to manage the household..."

"I know," Beatrice interrupted. "Since my dear friend fell ill, the house has been a mess.

"Now that I'm back, for the sake of our families' friendship and my dear friend's memory, I'll help you get this house back in order.

"After all, we'll be family soon. You don't mind me stepping in, do you, Martin?"

She addressed them directly. "Your father mentioned that Lillian is divorced and single. Now that she's so successful, there are bound to be countless men trying to take advantage of her.

"We all know what those people are like.

"Instead of letting Lillian fall for a scammer, it's better to arrange a marriage with someone we trust completely."

"A marriage alliance?" Brandon asked, shocked.

Colin hadn't even had the chance to ask, but he was equally stunned.

Beatrice nodded. "Yes. My eldest grandson is around Lillian's age. They played together as kids, didn't they?

"Our families go way back. He has great character and a sharp business mind. He just built a factory and is planning to collaborate with Lillian."
