Lillian studied Sabrina intently, waiting for the inevitable lies.
Sabrina instinctively shrank back behind Martin, shooting him a desperate, pleading look.
Martin scowled. "Lillian, stop being so paranoid. We're here to apologize. All this baseless suspicion is completely unnecessary."
Lillian’s expression instantly darkened. They came to beg for mercy, yet Martin was still trying to lecture her like a disappointed father? He clearly hadn't grasped the reality of their severed ties.
"Mr. Mercer, you make it sound like I'm forcing you into this," Lillian said sharply. "I have no interest in making anyone do anything against their will. You didn't have to march up here like victims walking to the gallows. You claim you're here to apologize, yet you both look absolutely miserable. If you don't want to do this, then don't. My mother’s mental state is severely compromised; she can't comprehend your petty little games anyway. So, if you're not fully committed, get the hell out."
Sabrina zeroed in on the most important part of the sentence: *My mother's mental state is severely compromised.*
She was still crazy.
Relief flooded Sabrina's veins. She knew the doctors said it was incurable. It was perfect. A crazy woman wouldn't remember a thing.
Without a second of hesitation, Eleanor raised her hand and delivered a vicious, echoing slap straight across Brandon’s face.
*Smack!*
Brandon's brain short-circuited. The explosive sound rang in his ears, followed immediately by a blinding sting across his cheek.
