Start groveling right away?
Martin's face turned a dangerous shade of purple. Sabrina looked equally furious.
As the silence stretched, Brandon quickly stepped forward to salvage the situation. The entire point of this humiliating ordeal was to erase Lillian's grudges and bring her back into the fold. He couldn't let his father's fragile ego ruin everything.
Brandon knew exactly how arrogant his father was. But the power dynamic had shifted completely. Lillian was holding all the cards, and she deserved to be treated like royalty, even by her own father. Especially considering the unimaginable pain he had caused her.
"Lillian," Brandon started smoothly. "Dad agreed to the terms, so he brought Sabrina here to perform the apology for Mom. They're ready to do exactly what you asked."
Lillian offered a mockingly polite smile. "Oh, is that so? Seeing Mr. Mercer standing there glaring at me in silence, I thought he was here to collect a debt. But then I remembered—I’m far too wealthy to owe anyone anything."
Martin ground his teeth, his temper flaring. "You..." He swallowed the rest of his insult, forcing himself to back down. He couldn't afford to offend her.
Pasting a painfully stiff smile on his face, he softened his tone. "Look, we're here. We brought our sincerity."
Lillian realized that, to an outsider, Eleanor’s silence and perfect posture made her look completely normal. Only those closest to her knew the tragic reality beneath the polished surface.
But Sabrina’s intense, paranoid staring disgusted Lillian. It was the look of a guilty woman terrified that her victim might speak. It only cemented Lillian’s suspicions.
"Why do you keep staring at my mother?" Lillian’s voice was like ice. "Are you worried she's getting better? Or are you terrified she might actually recover? Your expression is quite hard to read."
