The Winthrop household currently only had the two brothers and the old lady, along with a few staff members.
Lillian knew that Beatrice had always been very particular about her lifestyle. Clearly, this handful of staff wasn't enough to meet her high standards.
However, considering the family had only just returned, they probably hadn't had the time to get everything fully arranged.
Lillian's gaze swept the space quickly, noting the house still felt rather empty, guessing they just hadn't gotten around to decorating yet.
Beatrice was getting older now. If it were the past, she would never have allowed this. Even if they had just returned, she would have ensured everything was perfectly set up before moving in.
Lillian wondered if Beatrice had changed her habits or if the move was just too rushed to prepare everything in time.
But since Lillian was just a guest, she didn't pay too much mind to it, only feeling mildly surprised by the subtle changes.
Having just returned, Beatrice hadn't seen many old acquaintances yet, so she naturally had endless things to talk about with Lillian.
The two Winthrop brothers stayed by their side. Both had high emotional intelligence, making the conversation incredibly pleasant and engaging for everyone.
During dinner, the topic eventually drifted to the Mercer family.
"Little Lillian, I saw all the news online.
I just couldn't believe it. Have things really gotten that tense between you, your father, and your brothers?"
Lillian knew she probably couldn't avoid this question.
"I can only say that getting to this point wasn't something that happened overnight."
Naturally, Lillian didn't want to talk much about the Mercers, but the Winthrops and Mercers were old family friends with deep historical ties.
They even held some of each other's shares.
But Lillian didn't care about that. She had cut all ties with the Mercers; they meant nothing to her now.
"I never expected things to turn out like this. Back when my dear friend was still healthy and running the household, how could something like this ever happen?
Your grandmother is ill and hasn't woken up. Since I'm back, I have to step up for you.
Just wait for good news from me, Little Lillian. I'll definitely find a way to get you justice."
Lillian understood Beatrice's good intentions.
After all, she was Rosemary's true best friend, maintaining their close bond for years.
The Mercer family, including Martin Mercer, respected her deeply.
So if Beatrice said she wanted to get justice for her, she certainly had the status and influence to actually do it.
But Lillian truly didn't need any of it.
She only wanted to stay far away from the Mercers, keeping their boundaries crystal clear.
