Lester Ross walked into the office. "Mr. Blake, several media outlets have requested an exclusive interview with you. What do you think?"
Sebastian Blake glanced up. "Regarding my marriage to Lillian?"
Lester didn't give a direct answer, but his silence was confirmation enough. That was exactly what the media wanted.
Sebastian tapped his fingers lightly against his desk. After a long moment, he finally spoke. "I don't mind an interview, but as someone who stumbled, do I really need to lay my failures bare for everyone to gawk at?"
Lester immediately understood the underlying message. "Understood. We'll schedule the interviews for the day you successfully win your wife back. I'll greenlight a few more outlets when that time comes."
There was a reason Sebastian kept Lester around. When it came to reading the room, no one else even came close.
Right now, Lillian Mercer was still deeply resistant to him, so Sebastian had no intention of going public with anything that might trigger further pushback from her.
However, regardless of what Lillian or Leonard Prescott said, Sebastian remained firmly convinced that those two would never last.
He believed he was the only man truly qualified to stand by Lillian's side and grow old with her.
Anyone else was simply out of the question.
Leonard might seem completely infatuated with her now, but when it came down to actually marrying a divorced woman, there was no way the Prescott family would allow it.
Of course, what Sebastian didn't know was that Lillian had already met Leonard's parents—and they were entirely supportive of the relationship.
Their only concern was that the young couple's fiery passion might lead them to be a little too reckless and take a toll on their health.
Sebastian had done some investigating, but his intel was painfully lacking.
At the very least, he was completely unaware of the profound, life-sharing bond tying Lillian and Leonard together.
If he had known the truth, it would have shaken him to his core.
He was certain that, in time, Lillian would see his sincerity and realize he was the perfect match for her.
Furthermore, he refused to believe her feelings for him had completely evaporated.
She had fought so hard to win his heart and marry him. A love that deep didn't just vanish overnight.
His thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. One of his lawyers stepped in.
"Mr. Blake, there's been a development in the divorce case. We still haven't been able to reach Miss Ward directly, but we've made contact with her legal representative.
They're on their way over now, and we've set up a small conference room. Would you like to—"
Before the lawyer could finish, Sebastian cut him off sharply. "Unless it's the absolute final moment, do not bring out The Blake Pre-Nuptial Agreement!"
