Back inside the maternity retreat, with Steve gone, the living room once again returned to its joyful, harmonious atmosphere. In Emmy's arms, little Manny was fully awake and alert.
Everyone gathered around the sofa, carefully taking turns holding the newborn. Manny was not shy in the slightest, nor did he fuss or cry. He simply kept his big, round, dark eyes, beautifully inherited from Emmy, wide open, curiously looking around at all the unfamiliar, pretty ladies.
"Oh my goodness, he is so soft..."
Abriella held Manny, her entire body rigid as a board. She did not dare to move a single muscle. Because a newborn's body was incredibly soft and their bones had not fully developed yet, he felt as fragile as a ball of cotton. Although everyone adored the baby, no one dared to hold him for too long, terrified they might accidentally hurt the little guy. After satisfying their craving with brief cuddles, they quickly handed him back to the waiting maternity nurse.
The nurse expertly took Manny into her arms and smiled warmly at Emmy. "Ma'am, it is just about time for the young master to eat. I will take him back to the nursery to feed him."
Emmy smiled and nodded. "Alright, go ahead."
Not long after, a lavish lunch was wheeled in by the retreat's dedicated staff, filling the long dining table. Surrounded by the joyful company of her best friends, Emmy enjoyed a remarkably lively and happy meal.
After lunch, the group relocated to the living room sofa to sip tea. Both Sylvia and Krystina were fiercely driven career women. After only a few minutes of casual chatter, the topic inevitably steered toward work, and they began updating Emmy on the progress of AgriTech Ventures' latest projects.
Abriella had zero interest in dry business figures and found herself stifling yawns. Rolling her eyes, she used an excuse to stand up. Taking advantage of the three women being deeply engrossed in their conversation, she quietly waved at James, who was standing by the window looking at his phone. She spoke in a secretive, breathy whisper. "James, come to the balcony for a second."
Though thoroughly confused, James put away his phone and took long strides to follow her.
Seeing this, Will instinctively stood up to tag along. But since his wife had not called for him, he hesitated, afraid that if he presumptuously followed, she would embarrass him by kicking him out in front of everyone.
Hearing this, James momentarily froze, then sank into a prolonged silence.
Truth be told, he had never seriously considered the matter. Back when they first got their marriage certificate, it was merely an arrangement where they both got what they needed. Later, they endured countless life and death trials before finally confirming their feelings for one another. Two years ago, when she gave birth to Joey and Dolly, they were surrounded by danger, and far too many unexpected crises had occurred.
Now that she had given birth to Manny, all his focus was consumed with ensuring her safety and purging the internal rot within the Nelson Corporation. As for Emmy, she seemed to pour all her remaining energy into her work and the children, and had never once brought up the desire for a wedding.
So, subconsciously, he had completely overlooked something so monumentally important. Seeing him remain silent, Abriella let out a heavy, disappointed sigh.
"James, you can calculate every possible move in the business world, so how can you be so utterly clueless when it comes to love and marriage?"
