Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 1585

Listening to his unhinged babbling, Emmy's brow furrowed deeply. She watched him struggle with cold detachment, making absolutely sure the chains had him bound so tightly he couldn't possibly break free. Only then did she turn her head slightly to address Barrett and Nina. "Leave us for a moment. I want a private word with him."

Barrett didn't argue. He turned and swiftly exited the room. However, Nina looked fraught with worry. "I can't leave you, Mrs. Nelson. This lunatic is too dangerous."

Emmy patted the young girl's shoulder. "Go on, it's fine." Seeing her absolute insistence, Nina reluctantly backed out of the cell. Emmy walked over and pulled the heavy iron door shut. In the dim confinement room, it was instantly just the two of them. She didn't step any closer, maintaining a safe distance of several feet as she stared coldly at the man on the floor.

"Dean, I really don't understand," she began. "How did you turn into something like this? Why did you resort to such ruthless methods against me over and over again?" Emmy had no idea that every single syllable she uttered in that cell was currently being transmitted crystal clear into the supreme command center via the surveillance feed.

Hearing her questions, Dean's emotions flared wildly once more, the iron chains rattling violently as he thrashed. "Because I love you! Emmy, I truly love you. I literally cannot live without you!"

Panicked, Dean tried to deny it, his voice trembling violently. "No, it wasn't like that... Emmy, you used to love me too." As if grasping at a final lifeline, his gaze grew hazy as he reminisced about the past. "Your favorite thing used to be waiting at home for me to get off work every day. Why did you completely change all of a sudden? We can just go back to the way things were. Just the two of us together, exactly like those seven years. Wouldn't that be nice?"

At those words, Emmy's pent up fury could no longer be contained. "How dare you even bring up those seven years? Do you have any idea that when I found out you had been slipping contraceptives into my food for seven straight years like a madman... I wished you were dead!" Emmy took a deep breath, a glint of profound relief flashing in her eyes. "Thank God the heavens had mercy on me. They let me live it all over again, sending me back before any of the tragedies began. They allowed me to see clearly who was actually worthy of my trust, so I could choose the right person instead of repeating the same fatal mistake and choosing an irredeemable bastard like you."
