Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 1584

Emmy lowered her eyes, thinking it over for a moment. She actually wanted to see what kind of dying words Dean had left, now that he was entirely out of options. "Alright, lead the way." She glanced back at Nina. "Stay close."

Guided by Barrett, they quickly descended the stairs and arrived outside a specialized hold on the lowest deck. It had originally been a storage room, but it was now temporarily converted into an impenetrable holding cell. Standing guard outside the door was Will, fully armed and alert. The moment he saw Emmy approaching, his expression changed, and he immediately stepped forward to block her path. "Emmy! You shouldn't be down here. It's dirty and reeks to high heaven inside."

Barrett interjected with anxious impatience. "Will, Dean is demanding to see Ms. Lincoln, or he swears he'll starve himself to death. His body is already severely injured. If he really dies in there from starvation, who's going to take the blame?"

Will frowned and fired back coldly. "He's not that fragile. A few days without food won't kill him. Besides, when he's on the brink, our medics will just hook him up to IV nutrients to keep him breathing."

But Barrett was desperate and refused to back down. "Easy for you to say! The Fijian military assisted in his capture. If anything happens to him, our superiors will come down hard, and we'll be left holding the bag. One way or another, we need to get him to eat something today and stabilize his vitals." Barrett gritted his teeth, his tone growing heavier. "The Fijian military absolutely does not want to hand over a useless corpse to the international tribunals, one that we can't extract a single shred of memory from."

Just as the two men were locked in a heated, tense standoff, Emmy interrupted them. "Will, it's fine. Open the door. I want to see what kind of last words he has for me now that he's been reduced to this."

The half conscious Dean twitched violently. Slowly and with immense difficulty, he peeled open eyes that were swollen to narrow slits. When his blurred vision finally focused on the woman standing by the door, a terrifying, frenzied obsession erupted in his deadened gaze. "Emmy..."

He lunged forward, desperately trying to throw himself at her. But the heavy iron chains on his wrists and ankles snapped taut with an ear piercing clatter. The massive recoil yanked him backward, slamming his spine into the iron pillar. Yet Dean acted as if he felt no pain. A wildly excited, eerily fawning smile twisted his bloodied face. "Emmy, you finally came to see me... I lost. I completely lost this time. I have nothing left." He stared at her, his voice rasping like sandpaper against a shredded throat. "Can we start over again? This time, I swear I will never hurt you. I don't want anything else. I just want to live as an ordinary, simple married couple with you. Can we?"
