Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 1577

James's expression instantly tightened, his deep pupils shrinking violently. He scooped up Emmy, who was curled up like a shrimp, with one long arm and strode down the hill toward the convoy.

"James... your arm is still bleeding..." Emmy was sweating profusely from the pain, yet she still weakly gripped his collar, staring at his left arm where a chunk of flesh had been bitten off by a bullet.

"I am fine." James's jawline was pulled taut, his voice terrifyingly deep. "Let the doctor look at you first. Absolutely nothing can happen to you!" His strides were enormous yet exceptionally steady, terrified of jostling the person in his arms.

The moment he rushed up to the convoy, the accompanying medic immediately rushed over with a medical kit. Inside the cabin, the doctor quickly examined Emmy, his expression turning extremely grave. "Master Sergeant, the lady's pregnancy is under stress. This dirt road is too bumpy. Given her current physical condition, she absolutely cannot travel by land anymore! If she keeps getting jolted like this, the baby in her womb might not make it!"

Hearing this, Emmy's eyes immediately turned red, and she looked anxiously at James.

James looked at her deathly pale face, a terrifying ruthlessness flashing through his dark eyes. He turned and barked orders out of the vehicle. "Entire convoy, turn around! Retreat to the coast, we are taking the sea route!"

Brett hurried to say, "Master Sergeant, what about those refugees..." These refugees had originally wanted to follow them to the Cardon Safety Zone. Right now, the battle was still at a stalemate, and James simply could not spare extra troops to escort them.

James coldly swept a glance over the trembling refugees, his gaze pausing on Coby for a second. "Bring them all onto the cruise ship!"

"Yes, sir!"

"No..." James tightened his arms. "Thank you for not leaving me behind."

Only James knew what kind of despair he had experienced during those hours when he could not find her. His mind was filled with the crazy words Dean had shouted at him in the shipping container. He said Emmy would return to the past, return to a world where she had no memory of him, James Nelson. He said that as long as they returned to the past, he could easily snatch Emmy away from his side. Just thinking of that possibility felt like his internal organs were being ruthlessly shredded to pieces. He was an elite soldier who had crawled out of a hail of bullets, a decisive power player in the business world, but when it came to Emmy, he could not afford to lose. If that day truly came, if Emmy truly went back to the past... how would he survive in this battered world without her? To him, Emmy was no longer just his wife, she was his entire pillar of support. She was the only light in his dark life.

Emmy noticed the wet warmth spreading against her neck. She thought James was crying because he had been too worried about her. She had no idea that this man trembling as he held her had already known all the secrets of her rebirth. She gently patted his broad back, just like she coaxed their two little toddlers back home.

"Alright, alright, am I not back safe and sound? Your brothers are all guarding outside the door. If they see the grand Captain of Dragonscale crying like a little kid, you will never live it down."
