Watching her precarious silhouette teeter on the edge, Dean's heart leaped straight into his throat. True panic seized him, raw terror flooding his eyes. Trembling, he instinctively took a half-step forward and begged her to come down. He frantically warned her not to move further out, screaming that the wind was too strong and it was incredibly dangerous. Throwing his hands in the air to show he meant no harm, he swore repeatedly that he would not touch her. He promised to dismiss his men immediately. Spinning around, he screamed hoarsely at the two guards by the door, ordering them to get the hell away.
Seeing the situation, the two guards quickly retreated a dozen meters, vanishing around the corner.
But Emmy refused to buy into his act. Her hands gripped the railing so fiercely that her knuckles turned a stark, bone-white color. She screamed over the roaring wind, demanding that he give her a gun, threatening to jump immediately if he refused. She vowed that she would rather die than let a monster like him get what he wanted.
Dean was panicking so badly that cold sweat dripped from his forehead. Pleading with her to calm down, he tried to reason with her. He explained that today was Hector's designated day of truce, and no one on the ship was allowed to carry firearms. He lied, claiming he did not have a gun on him, and begged her to step down first.
Emmy let out a cold laugh. She mocked him, telling him to save those lies for a three-year-old child. She revealed that she knew perfectly well he had a handgun tucked into his right waistband. She ordered him to pull it out and hand it over.
Dean was utterly stunned. He never imagined that amidst the chaos of their struggle in the dark, she had actually noticed the weapon holstered at his back. Seeing that Emmy's heels were already dangling over the terrifying drop, he simply could not afford to gamble. Slowly, he reached behind his right hip and drew a black handgun. Gripping the barrel, he extended the handle toward Emmy. As he pretended to pass the weapon, he subtly slid his feet forward. He calculated that if he could close the distance just a fraction more, he could yank her off the railing and back into his arms.
But Emmy saw through his trap instantly. She ordered him to halt with absolute finality. She commanded him to find a stick and use it to slide the gun over by the handle. She threatened to let go if he dared take even half a step closer. To prove she was dead serious, Emmy abruptly released one of her hands from the railing. The fierce gales instantly battered her body, swaying her violently, making it look as though she would plunge into the abyss in the very next second.
The immense force of her sudden drop dragged Dean forward, slamming half his body brutally against the metal bars. Gritting his teeth with veins popping on his forehead, he poured every ounce of his strength into maintaining his death grip on Emmy's wrist. Emmy hung entirely suspended in the air over the terrifying massive drop, the howling wind tearing violently at her clothes.
Dean gasped heavily for air, the muscles in his arm bulging under the strain. Just as he braced himself to heave her back over the ledge, his gaze inadvertently drifted downward. On the second-floor corridor directly below them, James was leaning halfway out of a window. His eyes were as cold as a god of death, his entire being radiating a suffocating, murderous frost. He held a black sniper rifle steady with a single hand, the muzzle aimed dead center at Dean's head.
