"People really do have different fates," Housekeeper Genesis murmured. "They're both wealthy heiresses, but look at the White family's daughter-in-law. Her husband treasures her like she's made of glass. Then look at our Miss Grover. Her own parents don't even check in on her."
"Madam is at the company every day running things," Housekeeper Paisley replied. "As for Sir, who knows what he's been busy with lately. You can't even catch a glimpse of him. The atmosphere in the house is just weird. I have this awful feeling something terrible is about to happen."
"It's all because of what Miss did. She had a perfectly good life and just had to stir up trouble. Sigh," Genesis let out a long, heavy breath.
Paisley leaned in closer. "Has Mrs. White checked into the delivery room yet?"
"She checked in three days ago. Her due date is any day now, and she's even staying on the same floor as our Miss."
"I heard she's having twins, a boy and a girl. The White family is truly blessed this time."
Listening to their incessant chirping, Nancy felt a blinding surge of irritation and weakly rasped out, "Shut up!"
Startled, Paisley and Genesis immediately fell silent, too terrified to utter another word.
The room plunged back into quiet isolation.
In her groggy state, Nancy slipped into a vivid dream.
But Kaelan seemingly despised the marriage his father had arranged. In a fit of rage, he joined the military as a common soldier. It was there that he met Cora, and he fell madly and recklessly in love with her.
Years later, in his desperate bid to crown Cora as his empress, Kaelan was nearly branded a tyrant. Though Isolde still entered the palace, her promised title of empress was downgraded to a mere royal consort. Not only was her status diminished, but she spent her entire life deprived of the king's affection.
Consumed by vengeance, Isolde framed Cora's children, claiming they were not of royal blood. This catastrophic move brought annihilation upon the entire Grover family.
In the dream, she was strung high up on the city walls. A blood-soaked Cora mercilessly subjected her to death by a thousand cuts, carving away her flesh piece by piece. Though it was only a dream, the agonizing pain of the blade felt startlingly real.
Right before she took her last breath in the vision, a voice echoed in her ears: "If you die, she dies. If you live, she lives. Your destinies are bound."
