That day was supposed to be the most radiant moment of Maeve's life.
Naomi couldn't bring herself to ruin her best friend's lavish wedding with her own trauma.
Besides, she knew Maeve's fierce loyalty all too well. If Maeve found out she had been brutally attacked, she would have abandoned everything to hunt down the culprits.
Even without hard proof, Naomi knew there was only one person vile enough to orchestrate something like that right then: Nancy Grover.
Trapped by circumstance, Naomi had no choice but to lie, claiming she was just in a bad mood and selfishly skipping the wedding.
Maeve's heart twisted painfully in her chest. While she and Andres White had been celebrating their spectacular, high-profile nuptials, her best friend was suffering in agonizing silence because of her.
Nancy Grover, that absolute lunatic, was practically begging for a death wish.
"What happened next?" Maeve pressed gently. "Tell me everything."
The most crucial question remained: how did Naomi end up pregnant?
Naomi looked away, her cheeks burning with shame.
"The drug they gave me... it made me numb to the punches. But it also stripped away my self-control. You know what those kinds of drugs do."
Maeve's expression darkened. "An aphrodisiac?"
Naomi gave a humiliated nod.
"I was terrified. I just kept running. The whole hotel felt like a massive, twisting maze. I was stumbling in and out of elevators, down endless hallways.
"Maeve, I swear I'm not trying to hide anything from you, but it's all a blur.
"I don't know where I ended up. I don't know his name, and I don't even know what he looked like.
"All I know is... when I finally came to my senses, it was already over.
"I was so scared. I couldn't face anyone, so I ran away before the sun even came up.
"There was a man in the bed next to me, but I didn't dare look at him. I didn't want to know."
Maeve watched the floor indicator climb until it stopped at the twenty-fifth floor.
The twenty-fifth floor was the hotel's exclusive presidential suite tier.
Maeve seamlessly switched to the cameras on that floor. The video showed Naomi stumbling out of the elevator in a blind panic, desperately pounding on doors for help.
No one answered.
Disoriented and burning with the drug, she practically fell against the door of Room 2508. By sheer chance, it hadn't been latched shut. She stumbled inside.
And then, the hallway camera showed nothing more.
Maeve quickly hacked the hotel registry to see who had booked Room 2508 that night. When the name loaded on the screen, Maeve froze, completely stunned.
Titus Reed!
Her own brother?
