Mina crossed her arms, her chin held high. "You really are naive. I throw out a casual invite, and you come running like a desperate puppy. Leave. This is my house, and you're not welcome here."
Isolde stared at the ruined cake splattered across the pavement. She stood frozen for a long time before she finally nodded. "Okay. I understand."
Without looking at Mina again, she turned around and walked back the way she came.
Rupert the butler was slightly puzzled by Mina's uncharacteristically cruel behavior, but having watched the girl grow up, his loyalty lay entirely with her.
"Miss Mina, let's head inside."
Mina stared at the smashed, deformed face of the Kitten Cake, her eyes growing increasingly desolate.
After a long silence, she began to mutter to herself, "How could I be so vicious? How could I be so selfish? How could I say something so horrible to her?"
Mina shook her head frantically. She couldn't believe the monster who just spoke was actually her.
"Mina? What's wrong?"
Theron had been ushered out by their grandfather to check on the delay. As soon as he reached the entrance, he saw Mina looking utterly unhinged, talking to thin air.
Mina grabbed his arm in a panic. "Theron, that girl who just left... she's your sister. She's your real sister."
Theron chuckled, gently feeling her forehead for a fever. "What nonsense are you talking about? You're my sister."
"No, I'm not." Mina suddenly broke down, sobbing uncontrollably. "I need to find her. I have to find her."
Isolde had come here begging for a lifeline, and Mina's cruel words were going to push her over the edge.
Mina shoved Theron aside and bolted down the driveway.
Soft, acoustic pop music played over the cafe speakers. Vivienne sat at her table, aggressively stirring her coffee out of sheer boredom.
What the hell had gone wrong?
Could it be that because Julianne's villain arc wasn't a major plot point, the narrative just decided to skip it entirely?
Noticing her distracted state, Alaric spoke up. "Where are we going after you finish your coffee?"
Vivienne looked up, opening her mouth to answer.
