After a three-hour flight, they landed smoothly. A private car was already waiting on the tarmac to sweep them away to the hotel.
Once they settled into the suite, Alaric noticed the exhaustion rolling off Ivy in waves. He gestured toward the inner bedroom of the sprawling presidential suite.
"Go get some rest. I have an appointment later. If you wake up and I'm not back yet, feel free to walk around and explore."
Ivy knew this was a business trip; he was obviously heading out to handle important matters.
She had no intention of tagging along and being a nuisance, so she nodded obediently.
Alaric changed into a sharp, all-black suit that gave him a profoundly solemn aura.
Before stepping out, he paused at the bedroom door to give her final instructions. "If you get hungry, call down to the front desk and have room service bring you whatever you want. If you need anything else, call my cell."
Ivy was already tucked under the covers.
Watching Mr. Foster in his dark suit, looking like he was rushing off to work, she couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy.
"Aren't you exhausted? Why don't you rest for a bit before you head out?"
"I'll rest when I get back. People are waiting for me. I'm leaving."
"Okay."
After watching him go, Ivy lay back against the plush pillows of the six-star hotel's presidential suite, utterly awestruck.
Being rich really was an entirely different world.
You flew on private jets and landed to full concierge service.
Even a temporary hotel room was as massive and luxurious as a grand estate.
Standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, you could look down over half the city of Northport.
Taking in her surroundings, Ivy shook her head in sheer amazement.
No wonder everyone fought so viciously to climb to the top of the ladder.
The saying that it was 'lonely at the top' was completely fabricated by people who had never been there. The top didn't just give you better sunlight.
It gave you access to breathtaking views that ordinary people couldn't fathom in a lifetime, along with treatment fit for royalty.
For a brief, fleeting moment, Ivy wished she could be powerful too.
A woman who relied on her own blood, sweat, and tears to climb the ranks and stand at the absolute peak, just like Mr. Foster.
After leaving the hotel, Alaric and Leo slid into the waiting car, heading straight for South Hill Memorial Park.
