She didn't even dare to cry out loud.
All she could do was hold Lily tight and let the tears fall in silence.

Raelynn remained silent for a long moment.
She hastily wiped her damp cheeks and gave her daughter a reassuring smile. "No, sweetie. I just missed my baby."
But Lily was already past the age of being easily distracted. She cupped Raelynn's face in her small hands, carefully wiping away the lingering moisture near her eyes, her little brow furrowed with concern. "But you're crying. I never want Mama to shed tears."
Raelynn stared at Lily for a long time.
Swallowing the heavy emotional knot in her throat, she murmured, "Sweetie... what if... what if Mama told you your biological dad was still alive? Would you want to meet him? Would you want a father's love and company?"
These were topics she had actively shielded Lily from for years.
But it was too late for that now.
Many of the impending storms could no longer be solved by hiding or running away.

Raelynn choked back a sob, pulling Lily into another fierce, desperate hug.

She glanced at the screen.
It was a call from the Croix family.
They had moved even faster than she had anticipated.
Taking a deep, steadying breath, Raelynn told Lily to head inside the house first. She turned away to answer the call.

Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
