Winnie let out a soft laugh. "Isn't that just stating the obvious?"
Michael lowered his gaze and gently laced his fingers through Winnie's. "Winnie, honestly, even though I chose you and wanted your love, I never once expected you to give up anything for me, including loving me. When I was in a bad place, your love only scared me more. I was afraid…"
"You were afraid I'd get tired of you someday, so you'd rather push me away first. It was never about not trusting me. You just never saw our relationship as an equal one to begin with."
There was a note of sorrow in Winnie's voice, but it wasn't over what Michael had done. It was guilt.
She was the one who'd given him so much uncertainty and anxiety over their relationship, shattering his pride until he'd loved her from such an unequal place.
"You're right. But..."
Michael's throat worked, something like relief creeping into his eyes. "But like you said, I'm not really without regrets.
"These past few days, I kept worrying you'd get tired of me eventually, that my mental state might slip again. But I've thought it through now. Maybe taking care of me is hard on you, but if we split up, it would be even harder on you.
"Since you were the one who chose this on your own, then when I need you, I can choose to lean on you too. And if you ever do grow tired of me down the road, I should at least carry this weight alongside you until then..."
Before Michael could finish, Winnie caught his face and kissed him.
Every word he'd said had struck right at her heart. She felt moved, and happy, and the weight she'd been carrying in her chest finally lifted.
She was too overwhelmed. There wasn't a single word left in her that could answer him properly.
Michael found his whole body stirred by her, but he couldn't bring himself to push her away. All he could do was close his eyes and kiss her back with everything he had.
Just then, the elevator lurched violently again.
Before Winnie could even react, the sensation of falling slammed into them once more, but this time it didn't stop after a few seconds. The elevator kept picking up speed, showing no sign of slowing down.
The malfunction earlier had happened on the eighteenth floor. If it plummeted all the way down from here, their odds of surviving were next to nothing.
"Michael!"
Winnie screamed and clung to him with everything she had.
Michael crushed her against his chest and shut his eyes in despair.
But by some stroke of luck, the elevator's freefall slowed to a stop about halfway down.
Michael didn't waste a second. He pulled out his phone to check for a signal, and to his surprise, it had come back.

The readers' comments on the novel: Billionaire's Match (by Tangy Candy)
Will more chapters be downloaded? It’s been awhile and I’m still seeing chapter 1175....
When will chapter 1044 and more bd downloaded?...
This is the story that I like reading. The heroine got the hold of the situation right away. No humiliation, no injustice, which keep the readers feeling bad all the way while waiting for the right thing to settle in favor of the heroine. Good storyline, congrats writer!...
