"I don't know," the older woman shook her head, trying to recall. "She answered a call, ripped the needle out herself, and ran off.

Someone next to her tried to stop her, telling her to get a nurse to take it out, but she said there was no time. She was in a huge rush."

"A call?" Jonathan pressed. "Did you hear what she said?"

"Not clearly. I just saw her face completely change after she answered it. She said 'I'll be right there.' It seemed like a real emergency."

The nurse asked urgently, "When did this happen?"

"Just... maybe two or three minutes after you left."

The young nurse quickly did the math. "Mr. Coleman, she must have been gone for half an hour by now."

Jonathan was about to speak when the cell phone in his pocket suddenly rang. It was the hospital director.

"Jonathan, the forecast predicts continuous torrential rain tomorrow. The flood situation in the Northern Region is critical, so the rescue team left early."

Jonathan's grip on his phone tightened. "Understood."

Hanging up the phone, he turned to the nurse. "The rescue team left early."

The nurse looked shocked. "But her fever hasn't even broken..."

Jonathan replied, "It doesn't matter. She's a doctor herself, not to mention she's surrounded by plenty of medical colleagues."

The young nurse nodded, and the two were just about to step out of the infusion room.

The sound of hurried footsteps echoed from the entrance.

Jarred strode inside.

He was wearing a black dress shirt with the top two buttons loosely undone. His usually impeccable hair was slightly disheveled, a clear sign he had rushed over at full speed.

That handsome face, capable of making any woman's heart flutter, was currently stripped of its usual playboy nonchalance, and upon closer inspection, carried a sickly pallor.

But his icy eyes masked any other abnormalities.

Standing at the doorway, his gaze swept over the entire infusion room like a predator scanning for prey.
