Staring at her soaked, exclusive shoes, Helena screamed hysterically, "Sienna! You get down here and lick the water off my shoes! If you don't lick them completely clean today, I'll end you!"
"Clumsy fool. You can't even pour a glass of water right," The old woman chimed in with a scowl. "You're useless. You ruin everything you touch."
Sienna watched Helena's meltdown with icy detachment, then shifted her gaze to the thinly veiled glee on Celeste's face.
"I didn't do it on purpose," she stated evenly. "Someone tripped me."
Helena sneered. "Someone tripped you? Who? There are only four of us in this room. Tell me, who tripped you?"
Sienna looked right at Celeste.
Celeste, who had her head bowed to wipe Helena's shoes, paused her movements at the accusation.
"She did," Sienna said.
Helena only grew more furious. "Absolute nonsense! You just despise Celeste, so you're trying to frame her! If you're going to lie, at least pick a believable target!"
Grandmother shook her head with a heavy sigh. "You really have a black heart. Celeste didn't do a thing, and yet you have the sheer audacity to falsely accuse her."
Just as the argument escalated, Celeste suddenly spoke up.
Her eyes were rimmed with red, brimming with tears she was desperately trying to hold back.
"Please, stop fighting. We're all family. Why ruin the peace?"
She turned to look at the old woman and Helena, the very picture of someone swallowing a massive injustice while putting up a brave, magnanimous front.
"Grandmother, Helena, please don't be angry for my sake. You two are my closest family. If either of you is upset, it breaks my heart."
Then, she turned to Sienna, her eyes overflowing with resignation. "Sienna, even though you're Jarred's wife, you are younger than me. I've always treated you like my own sister. Why would I ever try to hurt you?"
