With that, she cast a meaningful glance, though her face remained placid and agreeable. "Sienna, why don't you start by massaging Grandmother and see if your technique is up to standard?"
Sienna's eyelashes fluttered. Without resisting, she stepped forward in numb compliance.
Her fingers rested on Grandmother's temples, her movements stiff and completely devoid of emotion.
But Celeste refused to let it go, continuing to nitpick. "When Grandmother gets a massage, she loves listening to little stories. Sienna, as a therapist, you're the best at using soothing words. Why don't you tell Grandmother a story?"
Sienna froze for a second. Then, like a machine executing pre-programmed code, she genuinely began reciting a story with zero inflection.
Grandmother and Helena exchanged a look, both seeing sheer disbelief in each other's eyes.
This wasn't right.
Who was Sienna?
She was the lunatic who dared to flip a table at Grandmother's birthday banquet. The shrew who threw a tantrum at the slightest disagreement. The absolute disaster who had turned the Sterling household upside down.
When had she ever been this obedient?
"Celeste." Helena shot Celeste a secret glance, brimming with suspicion. "Did Jarred really manage to put her in her place?"
Celeste smiled, looking harmless and sweet. "Helena, if it wasn't Jarred, do you think it was me? I don't have that kind of power."
Grandmother and Helena thought about it and realized it made sense.
Sienna and Celeste were like oil and water, constantly at each other's throats. For Sienna to take orders from Celeste, the sun would have to rise in the west.
Seeing this, Celeste leaned into her role as the gentle, pure angel, speaking in soft, hushed tones. "Sienna loves Jarred so much, so of course she's willing to listen to him and properly respect her elders."
Sienna's hands paused, and she looked up at Celeste.
What did she mean by that?
Not only did she have to wait on Grandmother, but now she had to cater to Helena's whims, too?
