Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 60

She gripped the edge of the bed, trying to force herself upright, her trembling finger aimed straight at Sienna. "Get out! Get the hell out of here!"

Instead of leaving, Sienna took a deliberate step forward, tilting her head as she studied the old woman with feigned curiosity.

"That's strange," she remarked. "A second ago, you looked like you were on your deathbed. But after I threw a few insults your way, you're suddenly full of energy. Didn't Jarred say you were practically dying of anger?"

She paused, a smirk playing on her lips. "Looks like you just needed a verbal beating. Tell me, which of my insults really hit the spot? Let me repeat it a few more times. Who knows, maybe you'll have enough energy to hop out of bed and run a marathon?"

"Sienna!"

Jarred clamped his hand over her mouth.

He was genuinely terrified that if she uttered one more word, his grandmother would actually pass out from the rage.

But Sienna wasn't about to let him have his way.

She violently shoved Jarred's hand away. The exhaustion, the humiliation, the fury she had swallowed for so long finally detonated in that very second.

All the suppressed resentment of being forced to bow her head and being framed without a shred of justice turned into a barrage of razor-sharp daggers aimed directly at the matriarch.

"When it's your time to go, you should just go. Lingering past your expiration date just makes you an absolute nuisance!"

"I respect character and decency, not mere age. Unfortunately, you have nothing going for you except your wrinkles!"

"The phrase 'old and morally bankrupt' was practically tailor-made for you!"

The bedroom erupted into absolute chaos.

The older woman's face drained from crimson to bone white, then to a sickly green.

Her mouth gaped open, her chest heaving violently, yet she couldn't formulate a single word.

Panicking, Helena rushed to rub her back, frantically searching for medication.

"Mother! Mother, please breathe... Where are the pills? Where are they?"

Standing off to the side, Celeste's eyes reddened with apparent worry as she gently supported the old woman, murmuring soft comforts. Yet, a trace of twisted satisfaction lurked deep in the gaze she shot Sienna.

"Call the doctor, quickly!" she ordered a nearby maid.

"Jarred!" Helena whipped her head around, shrieking. "Are you going to get this psycho out of here or not?! Are you trying to literally kill your grandmother?"
