Sienna watched his retreating back until he disappeared from sight. Only then did she let out a long breath, as if a crushing weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
She steadied herself, forcing her emotions back under control.
Barely making it through the rest of her shift, she dragged her exhausted body back to her small apartment.
At the entrance to her street, a newly installed streetlight illuminated the cobblestone path with crystal clarity.
Sienna's footsteps faltered.
The last time Jarred had mentioned installing a light here, it was done by the very next day.
He was always brutally efficient. If he wanted something done, he could flawlessly execute it in record time.
But... if it were another woman, would he be just as considerate?
Like Celeste? Or any woman who managed to catch his eye?
The moment the thought crossed her mind, whatever trace of warmth she felt completely vanished.
She shook her head, refusing to dwell on it any longer, and reached out to unlock her front door.
But the moment the interior lights flicked on, Sienna's entire body went rigid.
Sitting right in the middle of her living room sofa was the absolute last person she wanted to see.
Jarred's grandmother.
Eleanor was perched elegantly on the cushions, draped in expensive silk, hands resting over a carved Rosewood Cane.
The disdain and anger etched into her features deepened the moment she laid eyes on Sienna.
The temperature in Sienna's eyes plummeted. She let out a dry, mocking laugh. "Is breaking and entering a hobby for everyone in the Sterling family?"
