Jonathan looked at the absolute resolve in his apprentice's eyes and knew her mind was made up.

He sighed, ultimately nodding. "Alright, I'll help you. But you must stay safe. Let me know the moment anything goes wrong."

A flicker of warmth crossed Sienna's eyes. "Thank you, Jonathan. I will."

After dinner, Sienna headed back to her apartment.

She washed up quickly and curled into bed. The sheer exhaustion of the day pulled her into a deep sleep almost immediately.

Half-awake, a soft rustling sound drifted in from outside her bedroom.

Sienna snapped awake.

The soundproofing in this old building was terrible, but this noise was too close. It sounded like it was right in her own living room.

She got up as quietly as she could, her bare feet pressing against the floorboards, and pressed her ear to the door.

The faint clink of metal slipping through the crack was followed by the heavy thud of leather shoes stepping onto the floor...

Someone was in her apartment!

Sienna's heart seized, her breath hitching in her throat for a terrifying second.

The security in this old neighborhood had always been practically nonexistent; a burglar had broken into the building next door just last month.

Peeking through the crack in the door, she saw a dark figure moving near the sofa.

Holding her breath, she backed away toward the bed, grabbed her phone, and with trembling fingers, brought up the emergency dial screen.

Just as her thumb hovered over the call button, the noises outside abruptly vanished.

It wasn't until she was absolutely certain the living room had returned to dead silence that she dared to gently twist the doorknob.

She tiptoed out of the bedroom, reaching out to feel for the light switch on the wall, when her foot suddenly caught on something.

"Ah!"

Without warning, she pitched forward. But instead of the expected pain of hitting the floor, she crashed into a solid wall of muscle.
