Yang Wenhua was worried that Bai Meiyue would blame herself and immediately tried to comfort her. "Yueyue, everyone has their own destiny, so don’t think too much. No matter what happens, you did not do anything wrong. As for what Lu Yu said, don’t take it to heart; he must be upset because of what happened. He is just in a bad mood after encountering such a thing. His words might sound ugly, but ultimately he cares for your child and you."
"I don’t blame him." Bai Meiyue shook her head. She did not know how to explain to Yang Wenhua that she had no intention of blaming Lu Yu. Even though he was upset and said some crude words to her, the truth was that she knew that Lu Yu ultimately only cared about her and the child in her womb out of loyalty to Lei Qian. She could understand his complicated feelings and naturally did not blame him for his actions.
She then turned on her feet and headed toward the greenhouse.
Her heart felt a little troubled, and she wanted to get some fresh air. When she arrived at the greenhouse, Bai Meiyue noticed the freshly bloomed roses, and her heart felt a bit better, but she could not forget the fact that Lu Yu and Shen Zhen’s child was in danger because of her. Even though Bai Meiyue knew that it had nothing to do with her, she could not shake off the gloom that kept rising within her heart. She pursed her lips and then walked over to the small bench before taking a seat.
"Are you here for some tea?" Just as her bottom hit the surface of the bench, she heard a familiar voice. Raising her head, she looked at Xu Jinye, who was sitting under the eaves of the small tearoom inside the greenhouse. This was the place where her mother usually came to have tea whenever she was feeling tired. "What are you doing here?"
Xu Jinye shrugged and stood up from the ground. Patting on the back of her dress, she walked over to where Bai Meiyue was sitting and sat down in the chair. "I would have sat next to you, but your bottom takes so much space that I am afraid of being squeezed out."
Bai Meiyue snorted upon hearing her remark. "Sure."
"As for why I came here...I came looking for you." Xu Jinye leaned back and took out a cigar, but when she saw Bai Meiyue frown, she sighed and put it back into the box. She said to her, "Do you even know that you have invited a wolf into your safe base?"
This was the first time Bai Meiyue had heard this. She tilted her head to one side and questioned, "What do you mean? When did I —I mean, we have let a lot of wolves- which one are you talking about?"
"Do you even know why you couldn’t get the promised fighter jets? That’s because the Bai family are deliberately holding onto them. They don’t respect Bai Wenxuan much, as the man has lost all his abilities with the end of the world and can’t do much with his crippled body. You can forget about those fighter jets—the Bai family will never let them leave their grasp. unless they can get any benefit from you."
As she spoke, she spread her hand, motioning at the countless roses and tea plants that Bai Meiyue had grown.
Seeing this, Bai Meiyue knew what the woman was telling her. She pursed her lips and leaned back in the chair. "What kind of resources can we even have?" Even if she did have some resources, she was not going to send them to the capital. Who knows which family was hiding that professor who killed her child? Why would she even waste her resources on such people? She would never!
"You might think that you don’t have any resources, but in the eyes of others, this is much better than any other safe base." Xu Jinye shrugged casually. "What’s more, anyone with a decent working mind can see that the safe base will only grow even more in the future. As long as a connection is established, they will be able to make a turnaround of their situation."
