"Look, the thing is, I'm really, really sorry for treating you like shit. That night, I got really aroused, and it embarrassed me. I didn't want anything to start between us. I was a mess. My father was a monster, and I had a gray wolf. I just... I didn't know what to do."

Her words began to falter as she buried her face in her hands.

I reached over and gently took hold of her wrist, coaxing her hands away from her face.

"No. I'm sorry too. I think I punished you for far too long," I murmured.

"Well, you've moved on," she said.

I immediately went after her.

"So have you," I said, watching her slow down before turning to face me with her hands planted on her hips.

"You've moved on too," I repeated. "Earlier today, you were all Byron this, Byron that. Madeline even asked me if I'd be okay with her setting you up with Alpha Byron."

I already felt ridiculously jealous of the alpha, even though he hadn't done anything wrong to me.

"And you didn't tell her no?" she asked with a pout.

"That's not fair," I replied, closing the distance between us until we were standing face-to-face.

"I didn't say yes to her, but I didn't exactly say no either. I didn't say anything at all. She shouldn't take my silence as a yes," I argued, planting my hands on my hips to mirror her stance.

"Well then, did that make you feel some type of way?" she asked, her voice dropping as she continued to pout and roll her eyes.

"Yeah. It made me really jealous," I admitted.

For once, I stopped lying about how I felt.

"Well then, what are you going to do about it?" she asked, lifting her chin.

"I'm going to steal you from him," I replied.

Her eyebrow rose before her chin slowly lowered.

"How?"

This time, her voice was soft, filled with something that sounded almost like adoration.

"By doing this."

Even my own voice had changed.

I cupped her face and leaned in, pressing my lips to hers.

It was our first kiss, and my knees nearly gave out beneath me.

She tasted so good.

I pulled back just enough to look at her, watching her eyes shimmer before they fluttered closed again.

So I kissed her once more.

My fingers slid through her hair as I caught her lower lip between mine. She responded by kissing my upper lip, her hands moving across my back.

One hand gripped at my skin while the other rushed up into my hair, pulling me closer.
