Sawyer:
I had no clue they would do that.
The fact that someone like Daniel, someone I had always thought I could step on and squash beneath my feet, was the one coming forward to question me, to challenge me, told me that Baxter had some kind of power.
He had made that pathetic man believe he would be safe even after going up against me.
However, little did they know, I had taken the medicine the minute I was about to enter the theater.
I could already feel something different in my body.
However, it was slightly different from what I had felt earlier that morning.
It was the same medicine, but maybe because I already felt so threatened by Baxter's presence, it seemed as though my body would explode.
Then, suddenly, Gina's words echoed in my mind.
She had told me that Baxter and Madeline got married.
They used to cuddle all the time.
She said the kids would sleep in one room, while Baxter and Madeline would rather sleep together on a single couch, cuddling.
She said her mother loved Baxter.
That alone caused a kind of heat to spread through my body that I hadn't felt in a very long time.
"Of course they would say that," I scoffed with a quiet chuckle, hoping the others wouldn't believe what Daniel was saying.
"Wait, I can prove it," Daniel insisted, still pointing at me.
I laughed sarcastically while shaking my head.
"Really? You can try. You can try all you want. But the truth is, the man behind you is an Alpha from a werewolf land. He came here under the guise of an innocent human just to fool everyone and take control of human land as well."
As I revealed this information to everyone, they stared at me in shock, listening carefully to every word.
"Because this is what werewolves do. They never get enough of stealing from people. No matter what you do, they always come back, wanting more and more. And now they want our land."
I spoke carefully, choosing my words with precision while watching Baxter.
There wasn't a single trace of worry on his face.
That was what I hated.
Alphas were cocky, and he was the worst.
I just didn't understand why he was standing his ground now when he hadn't before.
He was the worst kind of man.
And truly, a horrible friend.
Seeing him now felt weird.
I had seen him before in the human world, and I had always felt like I had seen him somewhere else.
But now that my Lycan was awake, it told me just enough that I needed to know about him.
It told me Baxter was the worst, that he wasn't someone to trust.
I just couldn't ask how it knew.
I simply knew Baxter wasn't who he was supposed to be.
Daniel had no proof to back up his claims.
"Well, I can prove that man is a werewolf," I declared comfortably, pointing at Baxter.
The fact that he remained silent angered me. It angered my Lycan even more.
For some reason, my Lycan held a personal grudge against him, and I followed its lead.
"Well then, prove it," Daniel challenged.
"Yeah, well, you wait too. We'll put him in a cage and leave him in the middle of the road. We'll let the full moon run its course, and once that's over, we'll expose him to silver. Then let's see how he reacts."
As soon as I said that, I watched concern creep across Daniel's face.
"I don't think that'll be necessary," Baxter finally spoke up.
Every time he spoke, he acted like he was some kind of hero everyone needed to listen to.
What angered me even more was that everyone actually did go silent whenever he spoke.
At that moment, the warrior returned.
Someone was with him, though Baxter and Daniel didn't notice until she was thrown onto the stage.
Livia nearly fell straight into my arms, but I caught her and steadied her.
"Come on, love. Don't be tripping now," I teased, pretending to sound concerned as I wrapped an arm around her and presented her to her friends.
"I have a doctor on my side too."
As soon as I said that, I watched worry spread across Baxter's and Daniel's faces.
