Sawyer:
Getting everything I needed, I headed back to my room.
Dr. Livia was still sitting in the living room, seemingly unsure whether she should leave or stay.
The last time I had shown her my Lycan, I could tell the impact had hit her even harder than I'd expected.
She was so fucking scared that, even now, she hadn't leaned back against the couch to rest.
She was still sitting rigidly.
"But it seems like I'm going to be reunited with my wife soon," I said to Nina, turning to her, who barely opened her eyes before scoffing.
"You're only going to get your hands— on Baxter. What makes you think he'll let you— he'll help you get Madeline?"
I was stunned to hear that little mouse speak.
The fact that she still had that nerve surprised me.
I'd thought she would be pleading for her life, but it turned out this bitch needed a much harsher dose of punishment.
Every time I mentioned Madeline, she scoffed, almost as if she were mocking me, like I'd never be with Madeline again.
"When I have Baxter and Gina, I'm sure Madeline will come to save them, even if she has to cross the ends of the earth."
The moment I said that, Nina looked up at me, her eyes filling with tears.
"And you're keeping me tied up for that woman when you know she loves someone else so much that she'd give up everything for him."
Her words hit me hard.
I didn't feel bad for her. No. Not at all.
I felt bad for myself.
Because I loved Madeline.
How could she do this to me?
Even after spending so long with me, I could still say with complete confidence that she'd leave everything behind for Baxter.
Even before she had reunited with her friends, Madeline used to only speak of Baxter.
That’s how I knew he had a soft corner for her.
I thought Nina was right.
I shouldn't have been thinking like that.
The very fact that I was thinking it was my greatest defeat.
"Well then, I'll simply get rid of Baxter. Either way, with Gina here, Madeline has to come."
I replied with a cocky smile.
However, there was one small problem.
I just didn't know how Gina had ended up here.
How the fuck had Baxter gotten here?
If I wasn't mistaken, a person could only come here after losing their wolf.
Had he lost his wolf?
No wonder he had been so weak. He'd been in hiding.
As soon as I said that, I noticed the small smile she'd been forcing onto her lips vanish completely.
"What am I supposed to do at that event?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Oh, come on. Don't do this," I replied, slowly approaching her.
She began stepping away from me, her eyes widening as I drew closer.
"What do you know about Baxter?"
As I finally reached her, she took another step back, but her leg hit the couch, forcing her to sit down.
I sat beside her, and she quickly curled into herself.
“I found him— floating in the— water."
The way she stammered made it obvious she was lying.
"Really? So not only Gina, but Baxter also just happened to come floating in through the water? Separately?"
I remarked.
As I stretched out my arm and rested it on the back of the couch, I noticed Livia's breathing become rapid.
"You know Livia?" I murmured, gently tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
I could tell she wanted to get away from me, but she was too terrified to move or risk offending me.
"You remind me of my first wife. Isn't that weird?" I mused, studying her features.
There was a faint sense of familiarity, mostly because Livia had apparently dyed her hair completely pink.
Other than that, there was still something oddly familiar about the two of them, and that was deeply confusing.
