Livia:
I had been kept in a cell for over a day now.
I had no idea what was happening around me.
I missed my mother. I was worried about her.
Then my thoughts drifted to Daniel, Gina, and Baxter.
I wondered what was going on.
None of it made any sense.
How had the president woken up one day and decided to be so vindictive?
I understood if he was angry with Nina because it turned out she had lied about their marriage.
But one thing I couldn't understand was why he was so furious with everyone else.
We hadn't done anything. And as for Baxter, Gina was Baxter's daughter.
Sawyer had only adopted her after he married Madeline. At least, that's what I knew.
I didn't know why Madeline had left Baxter for Sawyer, then gone back to Baxter and married him again, or whatever had happened.
It was a whole mess.
All I knew was that they were taking me back to Sawyer, surrounded by an army of warriors.
"Go inside. He's waiting for you," the warrior instructed, and I stepped into his mansion.
It was a huge, grand mansion, and I had never been invited there before.
But he was sitting right in the foyer, one leg crossed over the other, his arms spread, his eyes fixed on me like a hawk.
He already looked terrifying, as though he was ready to tear someone's head off.
"Your Highness," I greeted as I approached him.
"Have a seat, Livia," he replied, gesturing to the chair.
I looked at it before slowly lowering myself into the chair across the table.
"I don't think we've met before. I mean, before I went into a coma."
He began speaking in a calm tone, but there was something about his body language that exuded confidence and menace.
"Yes, I believe we haven't. That's because I was only studying at the time," I replied, matching his calm tone.
My body, however, was far more tense than confident.
The reason was simple.
This man, who was acting so pleasant, was the one who had kept me imprisoned until today.
"You know you're in the position my wife used to be in," he remarked, referring to Madeline.
My body immediately tensed up.
"Yes, I'm aware of that," I replied, maintaining a professional tone.
"Now see, here's the thing. I want my wife back. Along with that, I want to know where her husband has come back from. And I'm not talking about myself," he added with a chuckle.
That alone was creepy.
"Okay—maybe it's because you've just woken up from a coma. I can give you some medication," I offered but as I spoke, he was standing behind me.
Then I heard a low growl.
My body went numb.
I looked up and caught the reflection behind me in one of the picture frames.
The snarling made me grip the hem of my dress tightly, my eyes fixed on the reflection.
He was slowly transitioning while keeping his face right behind mine.
He then placed both his claws on either side of me on the couch.
They were spread so far apart that I could only imagine how massive he was.
I couldn't even say a word.
He brought his mouth close to my ear and let out a low snarl while I closed my eyes, focusing on my breathing.
When I opened my eyes again, I noticed he was shifting back into his human form.
"So, what do you say, Dr. Liivia?"
Once he was back to normal, he leaned in and whispered into my ear without snarling.
I forced a smile onto my lips and turned to face him.
"I know the exact medicine that will help," I said, pausing. "And the lycan will stay hidden."
My voice came out so shaky, yet I said ‘lycan’ as naturally as if it weren't a big deal.
