Nina:
Life has been spectacular.
I thought that when I came back to the human world and met Sawyer, he would be happy to see me.
I mean, one of his wives was in werewolf land, so he would need someone.
Besides, we'd been sleeping together even when Madeline was around.
So now, he would need me more than ever.
However, everything changed when he told me he suddenly wanted to be loyal.
He wanted to be a one-woman man.
That wasn't Sawyer speaking.
That was something Madeline must have taught him.
She must have told him to choose one woman, and he decided to drop me like I was nothing.
I came up with the plan alongside my father immediately.
Thankfully, after Madeline left, my father had taken all the keys to her private stash of herbs and medicines.
We knew exactly which one to use to cause damage and chaos.
There was a certain medicine that could put anyone into a coma.
The only way to wake them up was with another specific medicine.
So, with a very heavy heart, I had to put Sawyer to sleep.
I know I wanted him to wake up happy. I wanted him to fool around with me, touch me, and love me.
But that wasn't possible anymore.
So I had to take drastic measures. I had to go to the extreme.
I emailed Madeline from his laptop.
I took pictures with him and included some old photos that my father and I had secretly taken over the years.
Then I emailed her, pretending to be Sawyer, and told her she could marry whoever the fuck she wanted.
I also told her that I was marrying Nina.
It worked, or at least it seemed to.
It had been more than a year, and I hadn't heard from Madeline anymore.
She wasn't my problem, I guessed.
She had probably married someone and was living happily.
As for the human world, I thought it was doing just fine.
It didn't need a babysitter. Everyone could take care of themselves.
My father handled the rest, and he was doing a great job.
So what if he was a little hungry for power and luxury? Sawyer had deprived him of those things.
"Is that the only thing you need?"
The voice came from the second-floor balcony overlooking the mansion's foyer, and for a moment, I thought I'd imagined it.
I snapped my head towards my father, ripped off my glasses, and tossed them aside, just to make sure my mind wasn't playing tricks on me.
The look on my father's face told me I wasn't the only one who had heard it.
He looked as though he could drop into a coma right then and there.
"What happened? Were you so busy shopping that you couldn't even recognize your husband's voice?"
He spoke again.
My head slowly lifted until I saw none other than Sawyer standing on the balcony, his hands resting on the railing, a smirk on his lips.
He looked completely fine, no longer hooked up to any machines.
I immediately began to choke as my heart leaped into my throat.
As for my father, he did what he thought was best.
He sprinted towards the exit.
If there was one thing I knew about Sawyer, it was that the smirk on his lips told me he remembered everything that had happened before he went into a coma.
That one missing year was going to weigh heavily on both me and my father.
My father's steps came to an abrupt halt when he realized the door had been locked.
Then Sawyer's maniacal laughter echoed throughout the entire mansion.
