A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 1066

"And if I refuse?" Starla asked coldly, fully aware he was at his limit. What would he do if she said no?

Their eyes locked.

"Susanna must be brought back from your brother!" Fairfax declared, emphasizing the words 'your brother.' He was reminding her that her ties to Herbert made her complicit. Because of Herbert, this was undeniably her problem.

Starla let out a cold laugh. "So, you're going to use force?"

Fairfax fell silent. He stared at her, the internal conflict tearing him apart. "I don't want to do this." He didn't want to resort to this unless there was no other way.

"But you're already planning to."

"I'll ensure your safety, I promise."

"Like you said, he's my brother. What danger could I possibly be in?" Her voice dripped with sarcasm. His promise of safety was the biggest joke of all.

Fairfax stood up. "Do you need to change your clothes?"

He was done arguing. He was taking her back to Yoran, whether she liked it or not.

"No," Starla said.

He reached out his hand. "Then let's go."

It was decided. Without a second thought for her consent, he made the call. Looking back, she realized her desires had never mattered to him. He always did exactly what he wanted.

Starla didn't move.

He kept walking.

Left alone, Yvonne's expression turned glacial.

"Darling?" Amos said cautiously.

"Don't talk to me! I'm furious!" she snapped, not giving him a fraction of a smile.

Amos sighed. It wasn't his fault, but because of his friendship with Fairfax, he was catching the stray bullets.

Yvonne stormed inside. Amos instinctively moved to follow, but she stopped him. "Don't follow me!"

She marched into a room with her phone. Just as she was about to make a call, a text from Starla came through: [Wait for my signal!]
