"Yeah, bad luck," Starla sighed. "And the worst part is, you can't even shake him off."

Yvonne shot her a look. "So what did Amos say?" Starla asked.

"If Fairfax doesn't drop the idea, their friendship is officially dead. Amos will kill him."

Starla let out a dry laugh. "Good. Let him die. I kind of want him dead too."

Earlier, the thought of Fairfax dying hadn't stirred much emotion in her. But now? She genuinely wished he'd just drop dead. A man like that was nothing but a plague while he was breathing.

"Maybe you should just run," Yvonne suggested.

She couldn't stand watching this anymore. What the hell was Fairfax thinking? He used to act like Starla was his entire world. Now, for the sake of his so-called family, he was throwing her to the wolves. Did the past mean nothing?
