Wolf Princess Sold to the Dragon King novel Chapter 293

Chapter 293: Queen Deployed. Alpha Destroyed.

The queen is the last piece to move and the first piece to end the game. After the pawns have opened, after the knights have developed, after the board is ready for her.

It took exactly four moves for Damon Tavian to set up the board.

"She defaulted my vote," Renwick repeated in the tone used for ’she burned my house down.’ The fury packed so tight it had its own gravitational pull. "Without my authorization. In front of every Alpha on the continent."

He let out a long breath.

MOVE 5: QUEEN

"This was after she lit the entire map," Damon added quickly, like an afterthought. "Nicholas claimed her to protect her and she defaulted Lunaris’s vote to him."

The map was the queen. Damon didn’t deploy her first. He buried her behind the vote, behind the claim, behind the fury, and let Renwick pull her out himself. A piece your opponent discovers feels like intelligence. A piece you present feels like a pitch.

"She lit up the map," Renwick repeated. "Explain that."

"Every territory in Nyros lit a blinding white," Damon explained. "Brighter than any other Alphas’ blood had produced. So bright they made her repeat it. She obliged. But as you can imagine, some of the Alphas saw that as Lunaris trying to take over Nyros."

Damon watched Renwick’s recalculation. Not just an Alpha wolf. She lit the entire goddamn map. A giant, Nicholas-sized target painted on her back. The shitstorm was bigger than Renwick had any clue.

"Your daughter picked up on the subtext," he continued. "So she stepped back and placed Lunaris’s vote with Shadowfell. It was, frankly, the smartest political decision anyone made in that room."

"She doesn’t have an Alpha wolf. And she lit the map," Renwick said more to himself with the gears in his mind turning fast.

In chess, you attack when your opponent is between moves. Renwick was floating there. Old position was dead and the new one hadn’t formed. Damon was about to form it for him.

MOVE 6: KING

Damon leaned forward by one inch. One inch was all he needed.

"That gives her Lex Relictae under Shadowfell charter. The Law of the Bonded Widow. A fated mate to the Alpha retains full standing, full protection, and full immunity from prosecution by any foreign pack for actions taken in defense of, or in grief for, her king if the king publicly claims her. Nicholas claimed her multiple times in front of forty-eight Alphas, their Betas, captains, and over three-hundred witnesses across Nyros. There is no ambiguity with that."

He let each word carry its own weight.

"She wasn’t committing treason, Alpha. She was exercising a legal right that your jurisdiction has zero authority to override. Under Lex Relictae, everything she did in that corridor, is classified as protected conduct of a grieving mate. Shadowfell law. Ratified before your pack existed."

Silence.

Damon gave it to him. A grandmaster doesn’t announce checkmate. He builds a position so fucking airtight the other bastard has to say it for him. Renwick was almost there.

"Widower’s Immunity," Renwick repeated. "For a woman who is married to another man."
