Sensing the change in Greiger’s aura, Kira showed no surprise. "Oh? Taking over in person now, Evil God?"
This "Evil God" was the boss pulling strings behind the Earthbound Immortal, rallying the Dark Signers. In the anime, whenever a Signer’s personal grudge was resolved and they lost the will to fight, the boss would take over—controlling their body to continue the duel.
Of course, in the anime, this boss showed up with much fanfare and intimidation, only to go 0–5 in actual duels—never winning once.
Maybe that’s why, despite being able to seize control from the start and puppet them directly, he went to the trouble of weaving complex schemes instead—maybe his own dueling ability wasn’t so reliable!
"Hmph. You’re more skilled than I expected, Goodwin," boomed the Evil God now controlling Greiger.
"But with the Earthbound Immortal summoned, this duel is over."
"I set one card, and end my turn."
"Earthbound Immortal—so even a thing fettered to the earth dares call itself a god?" Kira closed his eyes, chuckling lightly. "Maybe it’s time to broaden your horizons. Let this tired demon see what’s truly worthy of being called ’God.’"
"What?!"
Kira: "My turn. Draw."
A card exited Kira’s graveyard.
"In my Standby Phase, if there are no spell/trap cards in my Spell & Trap Zone, ’Treeborn Frog’ in my graveyard can be Special Summoned. I Special Summon ’Treeborn Frog’!"
[Treeborn Frog, ATK 100]
Though the field spell ’Speed World’ remained, in Turbo Duels it’s a public field with no owner. So for this purpose, it doesn’t count as a card in Kira’s Spell & Trap Zone.
"Also, during my Standby Phase, my ’Sinister Serpent’ in the grave returns to my hand."
"At this moment, I have six Speed Counters. So I activate the Speed Spell ’Shift Down’!" Kira called out. "Remove all six Speed Counters and draw two cards from my deck."
Using up all Speed Counters, Kira’s Duel Runner dropped behind Greiger’s machine.
He drew two cards.
"Giving up all your Speed Counters?" the Evil God sneered. "You’ve abandoned the ability to use Speed Spells?"
"Because I don’t need them anymore," said Kira.
"What?!"
Kira: "From my hand, I can discard a WATER monster to Special Summon ’Swap Frog.’ I discard the ’Sinister Serpent’ I just recovered, to summon ’Swap Frog’!"
[Swap Frog, ATK 1000]
"When ’Swap Frog’ is summoned, I can send a Level 2 or lower WATER monster from my deck to the graveyard. I send ’Ronintoadin’."
"Next, I activate ’Ronintoadin’s’ effect in the graveyard. By banishing a ’Frog’ monster in my graveyard, I Special Summon ’Ronintoadin.’
I banish the ’Des Frog’ discarded by Brionac’s effect last turn, and Special Summon ’Ronintoadin’!"
[Ronintoadin, ATK 100]
Kira exhaled deeply.
"Now preparations are just about complete. So, as promised..."
He grinned.
"Let me show you what a real ’God’ is."
"A god beyond even the Earthbound? What nonsense," scoffed the Evil God.
"I tribute ’Treeborn Frog’, ’Swap Frog’, and ’Ronintoadin’—all three monsters!"
Kira raised his hand high.
"Embodiment of ultimate dread and trembling godhood—
Dreadroot let out a thunderous bellow.
It seemed to communicate a message: Don’t get it twisted—I’m not taking orders from you, I just hate to see lesser creatures like these calling themselves ’Evil Gods.’ Don’t think we’re on the same side!
Kira just smiled, unconcerned.
Sure, whatever you say.
And so, Wicked Dreadroot hurled a punch at the enemy.
A tide of pure, unadulterated dread surged forth, consuming all before it.
But the Evil God made one more effort: "Trap activate!
’Widespread Ruin’!
When your opponent declares an attack: Destroy the opponent’s highest ATK monster!"
He roared with laughter.
"Earthbound Immortal cannot be chosen as attack targets, so I know your new ace is the only thing that can be hit! Did you really think I hadn’t calculated for this? I don’t care where you found that fake god—it’ll be destroyed!"
Kira was unmoved: "A god is immune to all trap effects."
"NANI?!"
Greiger’s twisted face changed color again.
Dreadroot punched straight through the detonation, utterly ignoring the ruin. The god’s fist blasted through Greiger’s body, accompanied by a descending storm.
"Arghhh—!!"
