What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 542

Finnian paused. Why would the little girl say that? Did that mean if Kaia were here, he wouldn't be allowed to stay?

Jane and Warren exchanged a look, while Layla spoke up warmly. "Finnian, I cooked plenty today. Stay and have a bite."

"Alright, thank you for having me," Finnian said to Kaia's parents.

"It's fine, the kid missed you anyway," Jane said.

Finnian ended up staying for dinner.

Afterward, he actually stayed to read with Brynlee for a while—not math, but storybooks.

Brynlee lounged in his arms, pouting her little lips. "Dad, did you notice? Now that you and Mom are divorced, I'm even happier."

Finnian stiffened. "How so?"

Brynlee patted his face, giggling. "Because you and Mom are both fighting to be nice to me! Before, you were always so busy, I couldn't even see you sometimes. Now, whenever I miss you, you magically appear."

Finnian didn't know whether to laugh or cry. This kid was going to be the death of him.

"Is that so? Then how about Dad comes over to eat and read with you whenever he has free time?" Finnian asked, kissing the top of her head.

"That sounds great, and I'd totally say yes, but I'm Mom's kid now. If you want to see me, you have to ask her first," Brynlee said, a hint of pride in her voice.

Finnian was momentarily stumped, but she was right. From now on, if he wanted to see his daughter, he had to report to Kaia. He could only see her if she agreed.
