That night, Jessica set up a small cot in Robin’s ward to keep watch over him through the night.
Because of her pregnancy, Elise slept in the adjacent family lounge.
As for Dylan, no one knew when he had left, and Elise didn’t care to ask.
Regardless, Robin slept peacefully through the night without running another fever.
By eight o’clock the next morning, the doctor arrived for rounds and confirmed that the boy’s condition was mostly stable, clearing him to be discharged so he could recover at home.
Elise originally planned to have Rina drive over to pick them up, but Dylan arrived at the hospital by half-past eight.
When he walked in, Robin had just finished his checkup and was currently pulling Elise along to play Parcheesi with him. Elise sat at the edge of the bed, the adult and child completely engrossed in their game.
Outside the ajar door stood a figure as tall and straight as a pine tree.
Dylan’s dark eyes mirrored the warm scene before him. Robin looked up at Elise several times, a radiant smile breaking across his face. His dark, bright eyes sparkled, as though his ordeal from before had been nothing more than a bad dream.
Elise’s gaze toward him melted with liquid tenderness. Every now and then, she would stroke his head, praising him for being clever.
A moment of harmony like this was a luxury Dylan had not dared to dream of for the past five years.
Ever since that catastrophic kidnapping years ago, his and Elise’s lives had seemed cursed. Pain and bitter arguments had consumed their days, and no matter how many times he tried, he could never pull Elise out of that relentless nightmare. In the end, he had been forced to resort to such extreme measures...
Dylan closed his eyes, veiling the silent anguish in his gaze.
He could only pray that Heaven would show mercy and grant him an outcome he had longed for like a pipe dream.
. . .
Dylan handled the discharge paperwork himself.
When he returned to the ward, Jessica had already packed up all their belongings, ready to leave at a moment’s notice.
"I’ll drive you back to the guesthouse," Dylan said, looking at Elise. "Once you’re settled, I’ll need to leave. I’ll be troubling you to look after Robin these next few days."
Since he was offering to be their chauffeur, Elise didn’t refuse.
The three adults took Robin and left the hospital, setting off back to the guesthouse. Jessica planned to stay in Rainport for a few more days, leaving only after the boy’s condition had fully stabilized—an arrangement that suited Elise perfectly.
With the show’s production schedule moving up, she needed to begin her preparations as well.
Upon returning, both Jessica and Robin moved into Mrs. Shaw’s guesthouse.
Considering Elise’s pregnancy and the fear that a nighttime nightmare might cause Robin to accidentally hurt her, he was assigned a room of his own. Mrs. Shaw arranged for his room to be situated right between Elise’s and Jessica’s, ensuring that if he woke up from a nightmare in the middle of the night, either of them could respond immediately.
The moment Lily saw Robin, she rushed forward to take his small hands. "Robin, are you still feeling sick?"
Robin shook his head, a wide grin exposing his eight tiny milk teeth. "I don’t feel sick anymore! And I have great news to tell you!"
Lily’s eyes widened in curiosity. "What great news?"
"Godmother said I can stay with you guys for the next few days!"
"Really?!" Overjoyed, Lily spun around and bounded over to Elise, tilting her chin up. "Godmother, is he telling the truth?"
Elise ruffled her hair with a smile. "It’s true."
"Yay~!" Lily cheered, dancing around in excitement. "That’s awesome! Does that mean I can sleep in the same room as Robin tonight?!"
Hearing this, Alexander’s brows knit tight. "Lily, boys and girls cannot sleep together," he interjected hastily.
The protective father’s alarm bells rang at full volume!
Josh teased him, "Oh, come on, give it a rest! They’re five years old! Just two tiny kids, what do they know?!"
"Boundary awareness between boys and girls needs to be cultivated from an early age!" Alexander declared with absolute gravity. He walked over, squatted down in front of Lily, and looked into her eyes with total earnestness. "Lily, have you forgotten what Daddy told you?"
Lily blinked her large, grape-like eyes. "I didn’t forget! But I want to sleep with Robin so we can whisper secrets at night, and maybe we can even play together in each other’s dreams!"
"Having a companion around is actually pretty good for them," Mrs. Shaw chimed in. "Mr. Hayes, if you really don’t like the idea of them sharing a bed, I can have someone swap it out for two separate children’s beds in the same room. That shouldn’t be a problem, right?"
Faced with such thoughtful hospitality, Alexander could hardly object further.
And so, Robin and Lily happily became "little roommates."
"Hurry up! Don’t keep him waiting!" Anna immediately dragged Fleur toward the entrance.
Pulled to the very front of the crowd by Anna, Fleur watched as a sleek black Maybach rolled smoothly toward them, coming to a stop right before her.
The chauffeur stepped out, walked around to the back, and held the door open.
A foot wearing a bespoke black leather shoe stepped out, planting firmly on the ground, followed by the tall, elegant frame of a man emerging from the vehicle.
Everyone held their breath—
The man was exceptionally tall, with deep, striking East Asian features, a rich tan skin tone, and sharp, hawkish eyes devoid of emotion as his gaze slowly swept over the assembled crowd.
"Welcome, Mr. Lee!"
The crowd jostled to offer their greetings.
Anna immediately pulled Fleur forward, her smile dripping with flattery. "Hello, Mr. Lee! Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to visit us on set! This is Fleur. Fleur, meet Michael Lee."
Fleur kept her head bowed, offering a slight courtesy. "Mr. Lee, it’s an honor to meet you. Thank you for your trust and support."
Mr. Lee turned his gaze onto her. A faint, inscrutable smile touched his lips. "Lift your head."
Fleur froze.
"What are you doing? Lift your head!" Anna urged her in a hushed, anxious whisper.
With her mind in absolute turmoil, Fleur had no choice but to bite the bullet and raise her head.
The instant their eyes met, an inexplicable chill swept over Fleur from every direction!
"So you’re ’Red Bloom’?" Michael studied her with a calculating, appraising look. "Why do you feel so different in person compared to your videos?"
Fleur’s breath hitched. Forcing a composure she didn’t feel, she offered a shaky smile. "I... I never showed my face in my videos. You must be joking, Mr. Lee."
"I meant the impression you give off as a person," the man said, raising an eyebrow as a subtle flicker of disdain crossed his eyes. "Besides, Miss Bonnaire... you seem awfully nervous right now––why is that?"
