He studied me for a long moment, his eyes unreadable, then nodded slowly, the way a man nods when he is already agreeing but wants you to know it cost him something. "Okay. So what is in it for me?"
"What?" I blinked. "You want something in return?"
"Yeah." He shrugged. "If I am going out of my way to do something so stupid, I should get something back. Don't you think so?"
"You think it is stupid?"
"Yeah, it is. She is not a child. She should grow up. But hey." He tilted his head. "You want me to play that game for you? For your sake, I can do it. I just have to get something in return."
"What do you want?"
"Let us start with something small."
He moved before I could react, one hand sliding around the back of my neck, and I turned my face away just in time, his mouth catching the corner of my jaw. I shoved at his chest, but he did not budge.
"What are you doing? This is the kitchen area."
He raised a brow. "And?"
"And I am trying to cook!"
