Chapter 377
Dominic shook his head firmly. “If it were not for Sparrow, I would be marrying you in less than two weeks. What is there to prepare, Celeste? We will visit your mother tomorrow, and after that, everything is pretty much taken care of.”
I chuckled. “You are the one who asked for a big wedding event. You wanted to flaunt me before the whole world.”
“That is not a bad thing.”
“I agree, it is not a bad thing.” I turned in my seat to face him. “But that is precisely why we need more time to prepare. A big event needs planning, Dominic. Venues, guest lists, dresses, flowers. You cannot do all of that in a week.”
“We can do it in two,” he said.
“We can do it in a month.”
“Two weeks after the engagement,” he countered. “That is my final offer.”
We went back and forth, and in the end we settled on two weeks, and I still thought the dates were too close. With Julian, my wedding had happened four months after the engagement, and this felt like a sprint by comparison. But watching Dominic argue with me over dates, watching how desperately he wanted to make me legally his, something warm and sweet settled in my chest, and I found I did not mind being rushed at all.
The car pulled up in front of Helix and Dominic kissed me, slow and thorough, until the driver cleared his throat.
“I will quickly take care of some matters at the office,” Dominic said against my lips, “and then make the trip to Imelda’s father. I will call you before I leave.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
I got out of the car, waved him goodbye, and stood there watching until the car disappeared around the corner. Then I sighed and turned toward the glass doors of Helix.
“Celeste!”
