Chapter 337

CELESTE

I was still crying when Dominic slipped the ring onto my finger, the cool weight of the band foreign and perfect against my skin, and he pulled me into his arms without a word.

I kept crying. I could not stop. The tears that I had been holding back all day, the tears I had refused to shed, came flooding out of me like a dam that had finally given way, and I pressed my face into his chest and soaked the very expensive fabric of his jacket with mascara and eyeliner and God knew what else.

His hands were on my back, steady and warm, and he did not rush me. He did not tell me to stop. He just held me while I fell apart against him, his chin resting on the top of my head, his breath slow and even.

Then his palms found my cheeks and he tilted my face upward, forcing me to meet his gaze.

“Look at me.”

I looked up at him through the wreckage of my makeup, mascara streaking down my cheeks in what I imagined were two perfect black rivers, my eyes puffy and red and probably the least attractive they had ever been in my

adult life.

He smiled. The man actually smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners, and he looked at me like I was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.

“Are you happy?”

I nodded, because I could not speak, because my throat was too tight and my chest was too full and words felt like an impossibility.

“Me too.”

He pulled me into his arms again, and this time the embrace was different. Tighter. His arms wrapped around me completely, swallowing my smaller frame, and he held me like a man who had almost lost something precious and could not quite believe it was still in his possession. I could feel his heart beating against my cheek, fast and strong, and I closed my eyes and let myself exist in that moment without thinking about what came next or what had come before.

“I love you so much, Dominic.” My voice came out trembling, unsteady, the words catching on the edges of my still-falling tears. “I still cannot believe you are about to make an honest woman out of me.”

Dominic pulled back just enough to look at me, and he lifted his hand and wiped the tears from my eyes with his thumb, the gesture so tender it made my chest ache.

“It was always the plan.”

His lips crashed against mine before I could respond, and the kiss was everything. Passionate and desperate and filled with all the love and desire I had been carrying inside me for this man since the very first night we spent together. His mouth moved against mine with a hunger that bordered on starvation, his tongue sliding past my lips, tasting me, claiming me, and I gave myself over to it completely.

His arms tightened around my back, pulling me closer still, and the kiss deepened until I could feel him losing control, his breath growing ragged, his fingers digging into the fabric of my dress. When our lips finally parted, we stared at each other, both of us panting, and then our mouths crashed together again in perfect unison, as though neither of us could bear even a second of separation.

We kissed like our lives depended on it. His tongue slid against mine, hot and wet, and my panties were soaked

through, my pussy clenching with every stroke of his mouth, desperate to have him inside me.

When we pulled apart the second time, Dominic pressed his forehead against mine, his breathing as ragged as my own, his voice rough with desire.

“I am not sure I can control myself anymore.”

“Our cars are at the parking lot.” My voice came out breathless, almost a whisper. “It is not so far away.”

Confusion flickered across his face for a moment, his brows drawing together, and then understanding dawned and his mouth curved into a slow, wicked smile. He kissed me again, hard and fast, and when he pulled back, his hand found mine and his voice was thick with want.

“Let’s go.”

We held hands and began to run like teenagers, like two people who had just escaped a boring assembly and were fleeing toward the nearest dark corner. Laughter spilled out of me as we sprinted through the garden, past the jasmine and the roses and the stupid fountain that I no longer found annoying, and I could hear Dominic laughing too, a deep rich sound that made my heart swell until it felt too big for my chest.

We reached his car and Dominic fumbled with the keys, his fingers not quite steady, and the locks clicked open. He yanked the driver’s door open and slid inside, then reached out his hand and pulled me in after him.
