The house was everything Celeste had hoped it would be. Modern, sprawling, flooded with light, with floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the city skyline. I watched her take it in, watched her eyes move across the vaulted ceilings and the marble floors and the sweeping staircase.

“I like it,” she said. “I really like it.”

But then her expression shifted, the lightness giving way to something heavier.

“Something happened earlier today.”

I felt my stomach tighten. “Which of them?”

“Julian’s mother and sister kidnapped me.” She said it with the same tone she might use to describe a minor inconvenience, a flatness that was more unsettling than tears would have been. “They tried to drug me so six men could run a train on me. ‘They wanted to capture it on video and use it to destroy me completely. But the bodyguards you hired for me helped turn the tables. They all ended up drugged. The six men slept with the mother and daughter instead, and I have the entire thing on camera.”

Rage flooded through me, hot and immediate, my hands clenching into fists at my sides. “How dare they? I will destroy them, starting with their company. I will burn their entire family to the ground.”

“No.” Her hand found my arm, her touch cool against my heated skin. “Their father is innocent in all of this. There is no need to destroy his company. I have something else in mind.”

“What?”

“I will send the footage to Julian’s father anonymously, along with the paternity test for Julian and Riley.” A cold smile curved her lips. “That is the best revenge. What outcome could be better than helping him discover what his wife has done, seeing him realize the son and daughter he raised are not his own?”

I exhaled slowly, forcing the rage to recede. “If they try anything against you again, I will show them how ruthless I can be. That is not negotiable.”

“Let me show you to your room,” I said, taking her hand and leading her upstairs.

When she opened the wardrobe and saw the clothes hanging inside, she turned to me with a raised eyebrow.

“Is someone else using this room?”
