“Yes. I already sent all the pictures I’ve taken to her. She said there would be someone on her side who would help spread the pictures. She wanted Celeste attacked from both sides, torn apart before she could defend herself.”

I looked at Dominic. His face was dark, his jaw tight, his hands balled into fists at his sides.

“Give me the camera,” he said.

I handed it to him. He deleted all the photos, his thumb pressing the button with deliberate force, and when he was done, he handed it back to the man.

“Get out,” he said. “And if I catch you anywhere near Celeste again, I will not just break your hands and your legs. I will make sure you disappear completely. Do you understand?”

The man nodded frantically, scrambling to his feet, and he fled the room without looking back.

After the bodyguards left, Dominic turned to me, his expression softening. “I am so sorry, Celeste. I promised you I would protect you and my own grandmother is the one causing you pain. I will take care of her. I will make sure she never tries anything stupid again.”

I opened my mouth to tell him about the stun gun, about the old woman lying unconscious on his couch, about how I had tased his grandmother and left her there for Imelda to cry over. But before I could get the words out, my phone began to ring.

I looked at the screen. My mother.

“Excuse me,” I said, stepping away from the bed. “I need to take this.”

I answered the call and my mother’s voice came through, sharp and urgent, with none of her usual greeting.

“Celeste, did you release that video online?”

“What video?”

“Seraphine’s sex video. With Julian. It is everywhere. All over the internet. People are talking about it. They are trending on every platform.”

I felt the blood drain from my face. “What? No, I did not release anything.”

“Then who did? Because it is out there, Celeste. Every single video you showed me. Every angle. It is going viral as we speak.”

“I need to call you back, Mom.”

I hung up and opened my phone, my fingers trembling as I navigated to social media. The first thing I saw was the trending list and my stomach dropped.
