Chapter 214
CELESTE
Elizabeth had just brought her hand toward my mouth when I made my move. My hand shot out, the rope finally giving way from the blade in my bracelet, and I shoved her hard in the chest before she could force those tablets down my throat.
She staggered backward, her heels catching on the edge of the rug, and she went down hard, landing on her butt with a shriek that echoed off the walls. The pouch flew from her grip and the pills scattered across the floor like tiny white seeds, skittering in every direction.
Riley dropped the phone she was holding and charged at me, her hands extended like claws.
I flexed my freed wrists, rolling my shoulders to get the blood flowing back into my fingers. “I see you did not learn your lesson.
Her fist came at my face and I sidestepped, catching her arm and using her momentum to pull her off balance. My other hand connected with her jaw, a clean punch that snapped her head back, and I followed it with a kick to the back of her knee that buckled her legs and sent her crashing to the floor beside her mother.
I did not wait for them to recover. I dropped to my knees and started scooping up the pills, gathering as many as I could into my palm. Elizabeth was trying to push herself upright, her eyes wild, her mouth opening to scream for help, but I caught both sides of her jaw before she could make a sound. My fingers dug into the soft flesh beneath her cheekbones, forcing her mouth open, and I shoved the pills inside.
